i know exactly waht you mean beacuse ive been trying to figure it out myself. its one of my main beefs with shooting digital, everything comes out too "nice" while film shots always have a raw feeling to them. theres a few ways, one is to focus on the object and step back a tiny tiny bit, like miniscual (sp) just so it throws it off enough to get that softer appeal. i've given up on using any sharpening in photoshop which i used to do out of habit. i add a bit of burning around the edges when the situation is right.
