Default DMz Dogtag 1.6 Beta - 09-05-2002, 08:57 AM

I just released it to the beta testers via email, look for it soon on these folk's servers.

=[DOA]=Ballbuster
Crow King
[DSB]Doggie (West Server)
kdja
padman
Rudedog

Also I've got it on my mini test server:
TFO DogMeats Test Server
68.43.41.63 (incase it's not showing up try the address)
Warning it'll lag with alot of people sorry it's just my linux test server after all.

It'll be interesting to see how the admins set up their options for force models and skins.
Here's the earlier [url=http://www.alliedassault.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=144268:108bd]thread[/url:108bd] for reference.

It seems like the mod is slowing the server down quite a bit

One thing BB ran into earlier: with a rented server your probably going to be FTPing the files instead of just un-zipping the archive directly to the server. Make sure you create a MOHAA\main\global directory (if it doesn't exist) and copy the dmzdogtag_config.scr file into it after you make your changes. (kdja I think this may be the reason yours isn't working re: your PM)

Slowing it down in what ways? With lots of people on or just in general? One thing to try is disabling the scroller. I set the scroll timings to be fairly conservative but it's still a little extra network usage.

// scroll
// 0 = Default Score Text
// 1 = Normal Scroller : via dmzdogtag_order.scr (default)
// 2 = Pre-Config Scroller 2 Pages
// 3 = Pre-Config Scroller 3 Pages
level.dmzdt_scroll = 0

Feel free to post your config file if you are having problems.

Well for one some people who have cable and have pings from 10 to 50 would lag and there ping would rise to 200 or more. Everyones ping all 18 in a map would have high ping. From what i can tell it works but Ball took it off because it lagged the server down.

I Have it set up and will be testing it on 2 seperate servers.

216.237.145.111:12203 [DSB] West ||24/7|| Public TDM Server

And

195.38.85:167:12203 [DSB] UK ||24/7|| Public OBJ Server

At the moment they are set to not allow forced models by players. Please let me know if the settings are working, or if you experience issues so i can report the findings.

This would suck if the tags caused the svr to slow down, but what in the world would that have to do with the gameplay? Odd. . .

Wingman: Sorry I've got all the beta servers I need.

Doggie: Working fine, force models is definately being turned off from server side.

BJoe: Mostly because of the extra bandwidth usage associated with sending the updated variables I'm guessing, remember the MoHAA netcode pretty much sucks. It could be dropping gamestate packets when sending the vars out.

All: It looks like the score screen scroller may be causing ping jumps when it activates, if you run into this please turn it off by setting it to zero as shown above. Remember all this extra info will be shown on the DMz Dogtag client portion, without the extra network usage associated with updating the variables continuously.

Also I'm heading up to Rondeu Provincial Park in Canada with the wife to spend the weekend at the cottage, be back sunday night.

DogMeat, glad to hear its in Beta. I'll be honest with you the only thing I am intrested in is the ForceModel override. Any chance that will be a seperate component, and if so, how can we get that?

Thanks.

Due to the nature of how I patch (or hook) into the existing pak files, releasing seperate fixes would not be the best way to go about things. So sorry, no individual patches.

Seems good so far. No issues on the West server.

I'm going to raise the player base over the weekend on the UK server to 36 players to see what it does when really loaded.

However i wont put it on the East server unless XGS fixes their maxrate issues 1st.
