theres a helpdesk in internal IT. Almost as frustrating at times.
I'm moving to helpdesk early next year, not particularly looking forward to it.
One of our major problems at the moment is one of our buildings has currently gone 'live' on wireless. I got a helpdesk call the other day saying:
Woman: I cant access the network.
helpdesk operator: Ok, no problem let me try to ping your pc. No success. Mike go check the wiring for her will you,
So I go upstairs to find her PC wasnt plugged into the network, No problem I think, go back downstairs grab a network cable - ensure the port was live on the switch, and run back up.
Hey what you doing she shouts. I replyed Just plugging it into the network, No, no no, its supposed to be wireless!!! I then spent the next 15 minutes explaining that the wireless was for INTERNET access only and the fact you need a wireless adapter plugged into your PC or laptop. Something that was clearly documented when we announced the launch!
