Been doin some stencil art for a few weeks here, there is a guy selling these on ebay for like $50 a pop... ive been happy with the results using my own technique. each single panel (done on 1/8inch hardboard) costs about $6 in materials and takes 1.5-3 hours depending on complexity, pretty simple to do.

top left was my first one, its of Charles Bukowski
top right was my second, its of Cat Stevens
middle is obviously The Beatles- stole the design from the ebay guy
bottom is Slug of Atmosphere- also stolen design
i also did one of a photo of me and my girlfriend- but i already gave it to her

i'd love to get into stenciling. i wanted to do alot of public graffiti with it but i'm lazy. shit looks good jew.

as far as selling them, i dont really want to get into doing stuff for other people, ive already turned down a few friends who have seen them, i just dont want to dissapoint anyone if it doesnt turn out as expected, especially if money is involved. but you can trust me they are very easy to do yourself- VERY little artistic talent needed. its basically find a cool photo online, mess with it in photoshop, cover the board in painters tape, grid, then draw and exacto knife each color layer, then spraypaint. if anyone is interested, i'll make a little step by step tutorial for the next one i do.

Stencils are so much fun. I've been tryin to make a few but i keep fucking up, Photoshop doesn't seem to have any options for turning pictures into stencils. but the slug from atmosphere stencil looks awesome keep it up! Ger, you work downtown, have you seen any Larry O'Brien stencils?

theres not much too it - select area then colour fill it - you just have to figure out which is the right area - do that by turning up the contrast, so that darks are darker and light is stronger - then divide the darks into two or three different levels of intensity - then using layers, select each of the 3 "levels" and fill each with a different colour.

Make sure you keep the layers so you can print each of the 2 or 3 layers - cut out the center and spray your choice of colour.
