Default Cheating - 10-09-2002, 02:58 PM

There's a lot of talk about cheating, and I have only been playing for about 6 weeks, so I am not sure how to spot one. What is a wallhack? what are neon skins?? how do you spot someone using aimbot?? (I am a sniper, so I have been accused of this before--although our server uses the CKR mod, so I have been told that cheats won't work there).

Wallhack allows people to be able to see through walls. Neon skins are skins that have the uniforms set to a very bright color so they stand out in bushes and such. Aimbot as far as I know there isn't a working one.

CKR is just a realism mod (unless you mean AutoKick, but I'll get to that in a second). It changes the damage, rate of fire, amount of ammo, etc, etc, to give the play more of a feeling of "realism." CKR is one of the more known realism mods, along with DOA's realism mod.

If you mean AutoKick (also by Crow King), then that will only keep out people who've been banned, have bad words in their name and have high pings. It really can't keep someone out who's cheating.

And as far as being able to tell when someone's cheating, it takes experience. I just recently started running a server along with three other folks and we're mind-boggled by the whole detection thing. Truth is, I never worried about it until I started running a server (the bright skins are becoming more and more common). Just listen to what people say on the forums about it, and talk to other people you know about it (but be careful, some servers don't like cheat discussion and will kick you). Eventually, you just know how to spot cheating (also be careful about assusing someone - make sure you KNOW they're cheating).

I don't know if I have been rereading this post all day, but I have heard a lot about skin lately, in terms of cheating.

Now, I was wondering, I don't have any skins, or mods, does that allow another player with a skin to see me with one on? And secondly, I was under the impression that skins won't work unless they were also on the server.

Just curious.

Here's how to spot em bud...

Aimbot-
I have SEEN an aimbot...
The person will probably stand still and make incredible unexpected shots. If the person is running beside a person (not directly at them) they may very quickly see and shoot you.

Wallhack-
The people will tend to look at walls and will "know" when a person comes out. I haven't seen any wallhacks. From what I've heard, the wallhack is dangerous cause it can really screw up your system.

There IS a difference between using an aimbot and havin bright skins. There is a chance that the person simply has a hard time seeing the screen, but these skins are specialized for aimbots, so watch out for unbelievable shots.

it *IS* a tad bit easier to shoot accurately when standing still oOo: so basically what you're saying is that if i stand still, make good shots with a rifle and try to localize where the enemy is using sound i'm a cheater. that accounts for a couple dozen regulars on the aa.com server.

If you force skins (damn, that just hurts every time I say it) you can make everyone look the way you want them to. So if you have a bright skin for the other team and turn on force skins you will be able to spot them easier. And, to my knowledge, if you have a skin and someone else has the same skin and is using it, you can see what they want you to see (unless you force skins).

Judging from your response, I phrased that wrong...

My friends and I have seen people with horrible pings taking out guys from across the map while standing still with a smg or MG. Yea, some guys stand still to make the shots like that, but generally they aren't head shots and it won't be 1-2 shots.
