Default Might be going offline for awhile... - 10-13-2002, 03:51 PM

Me, not the TeamSpeak Server

Both my CPU fans died on me and one of my card fans is dying. I think the card fan is the only one circulating airflow close to the heatsink.

Probally wont start locking up for a few days but if I go offline from TS or ICQ thats why...might get back on with my other comp if I can find the Comcast CD.

Just a heads up cool:

Sorry to hear that. I think my HD is screwing up, because my comp is locking up a lot lately. I will probably be gone for a while too here soon. cry:

Step one: remove computers armor (case shell)
Step two: place large fan (box fan preferably) next to computer
Step three: remove anything light enough to get blown around from the area
Step four: turn fan on high
Step five (optional): Turn up music to cover noise from fan

Seriously, you can run a computer indefinately like this, all you need is airflow around the main components. I've actually had computers run cooler this way than with the armor on and the regular fans going. I wouldn't put the fan motor close to your monitor tho, those magnets tend to be powerful enough to cause distortion on a CRT.

I've never done it long enough to accumulate dust, either that or I had the fan up high enough to keep the dust from settling.

Lol. I know about the house fan trick from my old AMD 350 OCed to 500 and a voodoo 2/3 card
(Very bad idea if you smoke around your comp doing this.)

I have the side off and Im turning my computer off before I goto work.

The CPU fans I can probally pick up from Best Buy today.

Worse comes to absolute worse I have the 2nd comp. Just a pain in the ass to get it setup with Comcasts shit.

You could drop your HD into your second machine (thus keeping all your comcast settings etc..........) biggrin:

This is one of the best tricks in the book, man.

As for the fans, have you tried taking the label off and applying a drop of WD-40???

taking the label off???

fuck! I had the CPU out and was trying to figure out how to lubricated the fans...

wound up spraying the sides of them and spinning the blades, didnt work.

If this comp starts locking up I'll do what KP said and just switch harddrives.
