I don't see how the system could detect if a user_.pk3 file was a useful hack or not....

Surely if a pure checksum patch was installed then we could all play fair.

Those who like all the mods that are produced can still turn the sv_pure off and continue playing as normal at least that way we'd have some element of protection for those of us that play in leagues.

it just checks to see if ANY files are modified. doesn't matter if it's a sound mod a crosshair or a nofog hack.

im all for sv_pure, but i can guarentee you that most servers out there will make any modifications illegal to their server. therefor modding spearhead will become redundant eek:

only thing it will be useful for is ladders where stock-everything is strictly enforced. other than that it's just ea's dumb way of saying they are cracking down on cheaters (by making my green dot illegal apparently)

thats true, and i highly doubt that alot of servers will run this on a regular basis. in weighing the good with the bad, maybe sv_pure isnt so bad. yes we lose our mods, but just think of the rewards. playing fair for once in a lifetime.

i'd rather have my crosshair. there are detectors out there for just about anything. so johnny has a bright skin? good for him.

and i'm sure you're just itching to play fair

if sv_pure only checks pk3 files doesn't that exclude wallhacks? you may not have bright skins or no fog (which there are detectors for anyway) but you still won't fix that problem.

Yep when i'm playing joe public i don't really care what mods i have but when i'm playing a league war i wanna play fair. Knowing someone is using an open gl wall hack and then relaying the information to friends via teamspeak or Roger Wilco isn't my idea of fun and so far no-one has come up with a good solution.

good point. the only 1 problem i see with sv_pure is this. what if the files are unpacked from .pk3 form. would they be detected then? if so, then okay. but with EA's rep, i dont think this will hold true.
