How many people in America do you think have any kind of clue that makes the flying of flags in a specific order illegal? Probably a couple of percent at most. To me it seems more childish than anything else "zomg we needs teh top spot!!!!!111".

I could understand old bumfluff there being pissed if the flag was upside down or something (international sign of distress) but just because it wasn't on top of the flag pole..well thats hardly enough to start spouting a little rant about.

It is disrespectful to the soldiers who have/are fighting a war, if nothing else.

conservative hick is not surprising.

it's a flag above a fucking store. nobody gives a shit that this guy cut it down. in fact, if it hadn't been filmed, nobody would have even heard about it. what he did isn't symbolism, it's just pointless. It's people like you that make it so mildly intelligent people in this country get shoved aside by BING BONG

the midwest. fucking bumpkin.

p.s:
stealing our jobs, etc.

There are lots of regulations in the US regarding flag etiquette ie: the US flag has to fly above all others displayed, the US flag can't be flown in the ran, the flag should not be allowed to be draped over people or buildings, and the flag should not be allowed to touch the ground, etc. People in the armed forces are especially sensitive to adhering to these regulations and respecting the etiquette involved. My dad was in the Navy and he almost always takes the flag down if he knows it is going to rain. It's just a thing of respect, especially for vets, therefore I can understand why he did what he did. I probably would have asked the owner to fix it first though.

c312 is correct.

Flying any flag above the American flag is a sign of disrespect. It's a fact that can't be disputed. Next time you see a decorated officer (whether it be a Soldier, Cop, or whatever) Take a look at their breast bars. You'll see on everyone, the American flag breast bar is always at the top most spot. If the decorated person was of Italian descent, you'd see the Italian breast bar below the American breast bar.

There's an Irish guy on my block who flies the Irish flag.......just below the American flag as it should.

There's really no need to argue anymore about flag etiquette. It's either one way or the other so, you guys can stop with that argument.
If you want to debate the guys actions, then go ahead. Don't toss it aside as "wtf, it's no big deal" because it really is a big deal. Stand in Arlington National Cemetery, look around and ponder that for awhile.

How would you even know, Gerv? How in the world could you even guess at that? I can gaurantee it is a lot more than a couple percent.

all you have to do is look up the history of immigration riots by mexicans in the southern US.

I agree with him. Look at the statistics for how many people cant find specific countries on a world map. THAT is general knowledge, and yet its only a fraction of people that know - Flag ettiquete? How could more than a fraction of the population possibily know that.

I think you expect too much from people if you think they should just know about flag ettiquete.
Anyone that gets angry/offended by an average citizen not knowing this is a little too patriotic and/or touchy, and should just remember that not everybody is from the military, and it is most certainly not an everyday fact - Because It didnt even occur to me, and i'm no idiot - I also know flags are treated with respect - But this particular rule I had no idea existed.

The destructive guy in the video needs to learn to control his emotions.

Because its more than likely something most people would have no knowledge of. Last i checked milla is in the armed forces and even he didn't see what the fuss was about in the video.

And i can guarantee its about a couple of percent using the same means that you can "gaurantee" its more than that. I know about the rules regarding flags not touching the ground with the exception of marks of respect as that kind of thing is observed by many countries around the world, a book i have about flags around the world makes note of it, it doesn't however make note of flags having to be flown in specific order, with the obvious exception of signal flags on ships.

Or how about you ask yourself this, how many people do you know who are well versed in law in general let alone laws regarding flags? Should i await the typical bs reponse to this? Probably something along the lines of people reading several law books a night just in case this scenario were to come up?

I kinda figured it was common knowledge - Ive known since I was a little kid.

Then again, being raised in a police/military family probably has something to do with it.

I'm sure Mexicans would be fine us going to their cities and flying American flags above Mexican flags. Of course, most of them are trying to jump a fence...oh well.
