BTW, I dont know whether some of u are being serious about hitting a kid, but threatening/abusing a kid is definetly not the right way to set him straight. IMO, its more of the parents fault that the kids, because kids feel so distanced from their parents. This is what I noticed when I was a kid. Sure kids talk back, etc, but all kids do it, its natural for a kid, as he or she is on his way to adulthood, to develop their own views and feelings about different things, and the attitude of a lot of people, even on these very forums, is a big reason y kids are lead to talk back, misbehave, etc Simply put, a kids views are not accepted. ive been on these forums long enuf to know that if some 13 year old starts talking about politics, he will probably get flamed somewhat like this "Youre to young to have ur own opinion u whiny bitch and ur too young to vote so go home and complain to your parents." A lot of parents really dont know how to be good parents, they get excited to have kids etc, promise themselves thell be good parents, but when the time comes they end up failing to understand them, which leads to problems.

I never talk back to my parents because I respect them. I understand that they do alot for me and deserve better treatment than some kid being a brat to their faces. Also, one time when I was a kid, my mother put dish washing liquid soap in my mouth a few times when ever I did say something wrong (younger than 8 years old). I've never really had a problem since then.
The soap will prevent you from talking back to your parents as a kid. On your later years, the respect that you gain towards your parents will prevent you from talking back.

Dont get me wrong, ive always respected my parents. But the fact was when i was a kid, they just didnt understand me. They would attempt to relate the time I was growing up to theirs. I told my friends things that my parents had not the slightest clue about. Y u may ask? because I felt distanced from them. Because they didnt respect my views at the time, and failed to treat me as a young adult. However, I guess I should thank them. Instead of learning from my own mistakes Im learning from theirs. Anyway, like I said before, talking to kids is just as effective if not more so.

talking doesnt always work. that is mt first method of attack but you have to rule the roost too. I feel I am very lucky because my kids will approach me and talk about many topics that I know other kids cant approach thier parents with

When i was 8-9 years old and i got out of line, i got spanked, simple as that. If i had bad grades, no TV and if they were really terrible then i got spanked. Always worked and i was a honor roll student from third grade on.

i'm sorry but i have to disagree with most of what you just said. im now 18, and i havent gotten spanked or hit in years by my parents. but back when i was 12 and younger, i did. and ill tell you it is alot more effective to do that then just yell at your kids. grouding them is another effective way, but spanking is the best. i never talked back to my parents and pretty much always listened to them because if i didnt i get smacked. talking is usually not effective at all imo

I get spanked, and now have gotten so used to it, I fear being grounded more than being spanked. Then again, when I'm being spanked by my dad..jeeze.

I was the most annoying fucking brat I could imagine up until I was eight.
I was on a roadtrip with my parents and I was bitching about not getting enough chicken mcnuggets at the McDonalds we were at and my dad lost it and just socked me one in the chest.
All my teachers say I'm also one of the most well behaved kids they've ever had and that they wish most kids acted like I do in class.

Just yesterday, I was walking out of school, and there was this old guy handing out orange bibles, and a crowd came around him, wanting to take some, just to make him feel good, I guess, so he had three of them in his hands, and all of a sudden a black kid (sorry for the stereotype) comes up and knocks the old mans arm away, making him spill all the bibles. I just wanted to rip that kids heart out so bad.. .
