Um don't think it will work, your mobo is a dfi right?
Edit: just checked its an asus, i know thers adaptors you can get for 20>24 pin, could try one of those. Ive no idea if it'll boot with just 20 pins.
Whats the make and model of the psu?

Oh i see where you're going wrong:

Thats from the newegg pics, that bit circled should be on the same power lead as the 20 pin connector, it just slides into place along 2 little rails.
just check for a small 4 pin connector on the same power cord as the 20 pin, just looks like its not clipped into the rails.

Built into the system? Try runing the driver cd for the motherboard, if it still can't be detected go into device manager and see if it can find any files for it on the net.

Now speaking from the new computer!
I will tidy those cables when I finish doing everything else on the computer. it is really the last thing on my mind right now.
another question. sound isnt coming out of the headphones, and everytime I do something that is supposed to make a sound, the internal speaker thingy just beeps at me. oOo: do I need to install some drivers? I installed everything that came with the mobo.

probably sound drivers ya, check in the device manager for "sound video and games controllers" to see if the drivers are installed.
