Exercise HEAVY METAL 18-20 February 2005

An annual training event for The Calgary Highlanders is Exercise HEAVY METAL, held in Wainwright. The training is geared towards live firing of the support weapons found in an infantry company, as time and ammunition permit. In past years, this exercise has included weapons ranging from the 60mm mortar to the .50 calibre machine gun. Other weapons with which the Highlanders live fired during HEAVY METAL 2005 included the C6 general purpose machine gun, the M203 grenade launcher, and the sub-calibre inserts for the 84mm SRAAW (Carl Gustav anti-armour weapon).

The new Tactical Vest (TV) was worn in the field for the first time by the unit.

Ninty, the MG in this pic is a FN MAG 58 (M240G Medium Machine Gun), right? If thats the case, then thats wicked. 'Cuz thats the other MG we use here in Sweden.

It's so accurate, its scary. It's supposed to be a machine gun, but you can hit targets from far away no problem. And when its in the sustained fire position, you can hit targets from 1800m away. Probably the best weapon i've fired besides the anti tank weapons.

Thats what we use, although i've only used the Calr Gustav and M72. I'm supposed to be light infantry, but when you haul the carl gustav around, we're not so light anymore
