It would run it fine for windows etc, games would struggle at the monitors native res though. Probably better off getting a more upto date system instead of going for a bigger monitor.
ugh, i figured someone would say that - no sense in getting a new monitor when i havent upgrade in 5 years...what do you think i could get for the $500 that i would have spent on the monitor? i already have a CRT, i just need a mobo, cpu, ram. how much of a stretch would my Radeon 9800 be if i wanted to play HL2, BF2, FEAR,etc? would i need a new vid card? i could possible toss in an extra $200. damn, its been too long - i havent followed the newer stuff lately, i dunno what i should get for my money..

thx for the links, my main concern isnt necessarily the price, the choices you picked were a bit out of my range, although i havent factored in that i have a monitor, speakers etc. i just need

RAM
mobo
CPU

i have an 80gb RAID using a modified IDE card. these HDs are circa 2002 and so they dont have the extra buffer, all i know is that there are to 40gb 7200rpm EIDE drives. is it proper to assume i will need a new RAID as well if im going to get a mobo that has DDR RAM, is faster and has more capabilities?

how do you know which components will function properly with eachother? thats the hardest thing for me to understand...
thx for the replies fellas.

Lot of motherboards have built in raid functions, if it runs off a raid card then it should install in the new mobo with no problem.

Depends on the amount you're willing to spend on a card.

I was thinking about that. My question is: Is 2x 512 faster than 1 gB?

I need to upgrade my mobo and video card, and I'm having some trouble.

So far this video card seems pretty good...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814143050

but now I need help finding a good socket 775 mobo that supports pci-e and a bonus would be if t supported agp also.
