Default Atmosphere lost in SH - 11-10-2002, 07:31 PM

I know everyone is tired of anti-SH rants, so I'll try not to be a "whiner." How do you feel about the atmosphere created in the SH demo?

Both maps have completely lost touch of what MOH is all about. There's no more atmosphere anymore... you don't feel like you're on a WWII battlefield. Oh c'mon, Malta feels like WW2? LOL. Remember The Hunt, Destroyed Village? True, AA has some of the same feel, as maps like V2, Southern France, etc don't seem to fit into the ww2 battlefield category. But I wish EA would have provided some indication that the submersive ww2 atmosphere would remain intact.

Then the fact that an option to have "fast" run speed is available kills the game, at least kills the movement that made MOH unique. All these people running around at warp speed, is this an exp pack for MOH or UT?!?! Making it the default selection means a huge selection of 5 normal servers to choose from.

MOH set itself apart from the rest of the pack by being MOH. Now it's just a carbon copy of the masses, with ww2 weapons and a nade launching mauser.

Sorry to be another bandwagon "I hate SH" rider, but I guess I'm just really dissapointed. So much potential lost...

A dark and gloomy axis sub pen, and the crumbled town of Malta dont seem like WW2 settings for you? huh?

I sorta see where your going with this, but i have to disagree. I think SpearHead captured the WWII atmosphere really well. I think that it captured the atmosphere just as well as AA, and look forward to trying the other 11 levels

Anywho, thats my oppinion

I don't care where we are at war I like the game, hell if someone made a moon map I would still play because I just like the game.

Agreed. There is alot of atmosphere in these maps. Look at STALINGRAD. There is no ambient sound but folks still feel this is a GREAT map. Along with ALGIERS. The SUB PEN is perfectly ambient, and MALTA's explosions make for a very great map.

Sorry, but I think you are gonna be in the minority here.

MOHAA felt like ww2?? HAHAHA! all you have to do is look at their stalingrad.. Thats supposed to be like the real stalingrad? LOL NO! Now if BF1942 did one thing right it was the map design of stalingrad.. Even at that there is not a game that will feel like real ww2. Ya just cant do it.

I have to disagree with you on the maps. if anything they did 8right* in SH, it was the new maps. I really think they are great and work really well when you have a good 20-30 person server going.

But i agree about the speed totally. If it ain't broke, don't fuckin fix it.

I don't know if this is correct or not but it seems that due to the large maps the amount of people a server can handle was cut in half, so teh only good 30 player server will be Crow's (if he decides to switch to SH)

I can understand how you feel with the atmosphere. To me, yeah, it feels much different. I liked how you used to be able to walk around the map with ease and leaning into a room. I miss that. I think the game has become too much like BF1942. Speahead i think has become the median between the two. The hand-to-hand combat is much more rigid instead of free-moving. I don't know. I just feel so restricted with those guns and the the whole feel of the controls.

That's my opinion

First off its just a demo, there are a total of 12 new maps, jeez give it a chance, I mean did you really think a map like the southern france map had that WW2 atmosphere?

I guess I'm the minority here...

But I just don't see any direction of the flow of battle in SH... basically, you'll do fine if you grab a smg and run balls out, blasting away. Even on the TOW map, I can grab a smg and mow people down until I die. It just doesn't feel how I hoped it would. Granted, AA has a lot of this too... maps like S. France, Algiers, etc.

I just wish SH would direct the flow of play, like on maps such as The Hunt, The Bridge, and such. Where you've got to move with your squad, your teammates. Fast run speed doesn't help this, nor do the arcade-like settings.

Hell, maybe I'm just looking for an entirely different game altogether... something where you don't run uber quake speed, nor can you run around holding the trigger down racking up kills.
*shrug*
