I have the latest video drivers and my specs are: 512RAM, ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO, Athlon 900MHZ,ASUS A7V133 Mobo, with the latest drivers. Whenever I start the game it brings up the gray screen and that's it. I have to C+A+D to get out of it, it says not responding. BTW OS is Windows XP.
Any help?.....please.

Only time I have ever received the "perpetual-grey-screen", is during a launch for MP. What are you attempting to do - SP or MP?

And is the demo uninstalled (if it was ever installed)?

EXCELCIOR-CHUMLY!!!!

I am just trying to launch the game. No, no demos installed at all.

Ok, I get that you are just trying to launch the game. But what game type? Single PLayer, or Multim-Player?

EXCELSIOR!!!!!

Well - I didnt know if you were launching a single player game, or launching Multi-player through gamespy. MP gives the grey screen of hell if a SERVER is poopoo - but it sounds more technical on your side. The only thing I can ask if this is a legitimate copy of the gmae (saying yes when you mean no wont help you out - ), and if it is - do you have the latest "working" drivers for your card.

It really sounds like you just need to reinstall the bloody thing to get it working all kosher.

EXCELSIOR!!!!

Well, after two days of trying to get this thing running, I finally figured out a way to at least track down the nature of this particular type of crash, the grey screen of death!

First, go to you MOHAA directory, and find your soldier .cfg file :

C:Program FilesEA GAMESMOHAAmainconfigs

open it up in word pad and find this line:

seta r_mode "4" (or some number), and change the "4" (or number) to a "2".

Next, create a shortcut to your MOHAA.exe file, and then right click on it to open up the properties. In the target field you should see something like this:

"C:Program FilesEA GAMESMOHAAMOHAA.exe"

Now add this to the end of that:

+set cl_playintro 0 + set r_fullscreen 1

So now it should look like this:

"C:Program FilesEA GAMESMOHAAMOHAA.exe" +set cl_playintro 0 + set r_fullscreen 1

Now, crank up your desktop screen resolution to as high as it will go, preferably 1280x1024.

Now run the game in normal mode. The game will launch in s amll window, and you should be able to clearly see the startup console. Also, you should now be able to Ctrl-Alt_del our of the game when it crashes, as before you had to just reset the game.

This was how I found the issue. The last known device the game was trying to initialize, in my case, was the sound card drivers. So I installed older ones, and the thing worked.

I think in general this grey screen issue might be more of a sound card issue. If it were a video card issue, it would let you know generally before it blanks the screen to grey or blue.

Anyway, one way to find out. Hope this helps!!

Weird........I uninstalled the game and reinstalled, added the patch, still not working. Found and added the no-cd, it almost works now. Tried to join IP game, got in to the load mission screen, about 95% of it loaded then it froze with the audio looping. Sounds like it may be the sound drivers after all, going to look for an update. Will post results.

Did you try my suggestion. Find out what the last problem the game ran into when it was initializing, and go from there. I had to DOWNGRADE my drivers.

I just tried your idea but didn't have the console stay on the screen to verify the problem.
