I don't expect you to like him.
Totally an acquired taste...Unless you exclusively listen to rap, you probably won't like him at all - Doesn't change the fact that he is easily the most interesting character in rap, though. Hiphop NEEDS this guy, IMO...
I for one think no other emcee comes close to Doom as an all-round rapper/entertainer. His style of rapping is highly original, and perfectly tailored to his persona....I love the fact that you have to listen to a song four or five times before you fully understand what he is rapping about - Very subjective, well-crafted lyrics - Once I click with the lyrics it's like when you finally find something that was right in front of you the entire time....In other words - I'm a huge fanboy. the_finger:

i just don't like the way his rhythm doesn't fit the rhythm of the beat exactly...it's hard to describe, it's almost like Willie Nelson's singing, it's just a bit off, but it makes it interesting. And you're right about the lyrics thing.

He's pretty big, and has had a lengthy career for someone who remains in underground hiphop....Usually with an extensive career comes at least a decent amount of massive commercial success somewhere along the line.
He's one of the biggest underground acts though, one of those guys on the verge - I'm pretty sure he's doing quite well for himself simply because of the amount of content he has out, it's neverending - he does alot of work. I dunno if he'll ever truly break mainstream though, if he does, it will be with someone else, Madlib, or Dangermouse or something...
