[quote="aNti hEro":46da6]but was it ever this big? now everywhere i look its skateboarding or snowboarding or anything that fits in the category as teen oriented. i dont remember seeing calvin klien commercials with skateboards 5 years ago. no one is an individual[/quote:46da6]
For the last 5 to 10 years, it has been in a steady incline towards popular lifestyle. I skated for 5 years up until 3 years ago. I had a look at what it had become, trendy surfshop bead necklace wearing fuckwit jocks carrying scratchless perfect looking $150 decks and picking up brainless big titted bimbo's just because they were wearing their Hawaiian flower shirts and Independant/World Industries caps.
It's been popular culture, "generation x" bullshit for atleast the last 5 years, even more. All you have to do is look at old Suicidal Tendencies music videos to see what I mean. Old school decks and pool skatin running amuck. Tony Hawk has been a sellout for years. Doesnt mean he is no good. That guy can skate, there's no doubt about that.

skating was never big where I live. Yeah there were the "skanks" at my school but the "preps" were and still are the biggest group, including me.

I'm not one of these people, I wear logoless pants, shirt and shoes. My hair is also neon blue. Not to mention that I listen to hardcore. The closest thing I could be associated with is a raver/party kid, but I rarely if ever go to parties. Anyway, everyone I know is pretty much what you describe up there.

I wear t-shirts advertising I listen to bands on Revelation Records or Grindcore bands with pictures of heads on spikes and their name printed with some impossible to read font which resembles intestines or something, followed by the baggy shorts or long baggy pants, are they short longs or long shorts oOo: ?? Whatever, you're not on trial here Spoogey wink: Wear what you like, just be true to yourself and do what you want, not what others would like you to do.
This topic has gone way off the original, lets get back to it...

I like WATCHING skaters. I remember when a me and (my at the time) G/F were walking across a parking lot from the 7-11, and it's a huge parking lot so there's a gas station. I saw this group of skaters about 14-16 years old, and one of 'em tried doing a kick flip or something over the gas pump curb, and he just flew! unfortunantly his skate board stopped at the curb and he landed face first on the payment, in fact, i think he bounced a couple times, and i was just laughing my ass off, my girlfriend gave me one of those "okaaaaayy" looks and she dumped me the next day.
Now, i am always within eye distance. At the gym were i work out, everytime i'm on the bike (which is facing a giant window in perfect view of the skate park), i always get a good laugh watching these twats act all macho around a girl and trying so hard to impress the lady by doing some skater trick and it almost always ends up breaking out his teeth on the pavement after attempting to impress her by fucking up in mid-air.
Good times, good times.

Yeah, skating is dead here again...It was real big for about 2 years ago....I mean HUGE....Now its just 12 years old doing it....Everyone is to busy getting drunk, and listening to music. NZ Youth culture is all about getting shitfaced with mates and listening to music.
