Bumping this old topic to add....
I ended up getting a pair of [url=http://gear.ign.com/articles/306/306258p1.html:9b5df]Grado SR80[/url:9b5df]'s for Christmas and they are freakin' amazing. Seriously. If you're looking for quality headphones look no further.

Hey Roland,
So, these Grado SR80's good for gamin', eh? I see that the reviews are glowing for both the SR60's and the SR80's as well. But really, how are they for gaming? Good highs and mid-range? How's the base response? I bought a pair of $150.00 Seinhiezers(sp), and they were great for music listening but sounded terribly muffled and 'canned' for MOHAA/SH gaming (as well as many other games I tried).
I like the price of the Grado's, very affordable. I'm gonna see if I can find a pair here locally in Atlanta.
Thank you for adding to this thread.

I use KOSS TD 61's I hear everything. Anything from a grenade pin being pulled to a door opening. I can even hear when some one is reloading. They help so much. The only thing Ive noticed was weird is that occasionally I hear a grenade hit the ground and it sounds really close but it could be across the map. That usually only happens in V2 though. Well Anyways they are nice and will run you no more than $50(USD) at most stores.

Bass response is really good, not muffled at all. Zero distortion. Same with highs, crisp and clean. Only thing that sucks (sort of) is that there's no volume control on the headphones, so everything is done through the game (or control panel). Not a big deal, really.
I've yet to read a negative review of Grado headphones. The only thing people bitch about is the comfort level, which i noticed after about an hour the first time i used them. Adjusted the headband (stretched it out a bit) and now no problems at all.
I know i sound like an infomercial, but damn, these headphones truly are great. :P
p.s. check your local high-end audio stores. Best Buy and other chains like that most likely don't carry them.

AKG K270's is what I use. They're actually professional studio headphones, so it's a bit of overkill for the game, but since I have them, I use them. cool:

You sold me Roland! I gotta have a pair of these 'cans'. And hey, don't worry about sounding like a info-mercial cuz, the reviews concerning the Grado's that I have read all sound very positive and like, "WOW, these headphones are great. Get em'!".
Thanx for the feedback.
(Sorry Bazooka Joe, I see this thread has made back over here.)

At the risk of bumping this thread, the reason I prefer headphones to speakers is that I find I hear much more, with the sound source right at my ears. I still use my speaker system form time to time . . .

Yep, headphones make a huge difference in moh. You can really judge where everyone is (or isn't) just by listening.. footsteps above you in the hotel, enemy sneaking up behind you, how close was that nade, etc etc. I guess if you have a really nice 5 speaker setup it would be close, but headphones can't be beat for sound positioning, imo.
Exorcist: post back your results on the Grado's (if/) when you up pick a pair. I'm curious to hear (no pun intended) what your thoughts are on them.
