Yeh, I remember that abandoned friendly as well. Those who instigated that mindless bullshit were not football fans though. They just saw it as an oportunity to cause havoc. It's still mindless bullshit but it's not how England football fans generally behave.

The last time Ireland played in England would have been Euro 2000, I'd have thought and they wouldn't have been booed then.

Hehe, at the moment England fans (the real ones) are more likely to boo our own anthem. We're very self critical, especially when it comes to sport.

The general view that the world hold of English people (not British) is that we're very aloof and very full of ourselves, but that is no more the case than any other nation and we are far more self-deprecating than most other nations.

Put it this way... we celebrated St Patrick's day with the usual gusto last week but when it comes to St George's day we'll hardly lift a pint glass.

Odd, really.

Hey, the Habs rock! That doesn't make the fans' action justified though.

When Toronto came to Detroit far a basketball game and the Detroit "fans" boo'd the Canadian I was sooooo shocked! It was a very wrong thing to do and a formal apoligy was given by the Mayor of Detroit, do you think the same will happen here. While we (U.S.A. and Canada) are very different in our views and ways we still have to stick together. Most people I know dont hate canadians at all its just some decisions the govt makes and Im sure its the same in reverse. This kinda stuff has no place though

Its like when Billy Connolly was talking about people who Boo football teams.

saying as if we are expected to turn around to the booers and say "you know what, youre right. i think ill support your team".

Hehe, when was the last time Ireland played a match in England?

It's been a while since I attended an England game where we booed the opposition's anthem, but that's my experience of the matter.

It's sad that we have a lot of mindless thugs in our supporting contingient when we travel but then almost every one of those are not really football supporters, they are just thugs who use football as carriage for their violence.

But you're right... Who cares if someone boos an anthem...?

Americans and Canadians obviously
Balmy Army = Best thing to come out of England in the last century!

I can see bush making a public address on this.

"My fellow americans, today, a day which will live in infamy canadians booed our national anthem in a showing of cowardess. This demands nothing less than a full retaliatory nuclear strike and the invasion of canada. We have the backing of the united kingdopm as tony blairs tongue is firmly attached to my asshole. We shall see that the evil of the canadian people and this outrage shall not go unpunished."

Something i can see that fucknut saying anyway oOo:
