It's called football because when it first was played back in the 1800's there was no forward passing in it. You could only kick the ball. Kind of like rugby. However, someone had the idea to pass the ball, and that turned into North American football, but the name football stuck.

Plus it pisses me off how football plays go for like 5 seconds each before you wait another 5 minutes for another play.
