Dunno really, its pci express and agp is being phased out, if you're looking to upgrade your system then at the minute for single videocard use in d3d the x850-pe is the fastest out there, nvidia usually have an edge in open gl, games like doom 3 quake 3 cod etc. Everyones gonna have tp upgrade to pci-e soon enough, can;t really go wrong with x850 at the minute for a high end card.
meh...get the x800 pro i say...get maybe 20 fps less at max than those...and will only be like what ...300 when that comes out...plus can be modded to an x800 xt regular with its 12 pipelines and the unused 4 pipelines and just unlock those and there ya go....:Note: it has to be a ViVo x800 pro... meaning video in video out rock:

They'll cost pretty much what a regular agp brand name one would cost at the minute, like $120 or so, unless you want dual pci-e slots for nvidia sli or ati sli when its available, those will cost more.

3 FPS and a double slot cooler.

Nice refresh, ATI. It's even worse than the 9800 Pro -> 9800XT.

It was for yield improvements at the fabrication plant which would = more availability, wasn't for frame rate improvement.

The core on that x800 series has reached its limits for normal cooling, mine tops out at around 535mhz with artic cooling from a default of 520mhz, unless you go to extreme cooling like watercooling or some kinda compressor the x850 probably won't clock that much faster either.

To get any real difference out of it they woulda had to have the core at least 100mhz faster and on stock cooling i dont think it could acheive that.

Hence the r5xx around april or so biggrin:

I am just thinking of maybe using 2 midrange cards in a sli setup. little bit more then a top range card, shiould be a significant performance boost.

Oh joy, I can't wait for the tech forums to flood with speculation of the new cores.... eek:

There are rumors that the NV50 got canned... I wonder what Nvidia is up too.
