[quote="Short Hand":9a326]wow, Philipine war was quite bloody indeed...

[quote:9a326]CASUALTY FIGURES:

U.S.-- 4,234 dead and 2,818 wounded.

Philippines-- 20,000 military dead and 200,000 civilian dead. (approximate numbers). Some historians place the numbers of civilian dead at 500,000 or higher.

UNIQUE FACTS OR TRENDS:

1. This was the first major land campaign fought by the U.S. outside of the Western Hemisphere.

2. The Philippine-American War can be considered America's first "Imperialistic" conflict.[/quote:9a326][/quote:9a326]

Yep, one of my favorite wars to study. Silly how much it was forgotten.

I just threw half of That site, very intresting indeed.... Sad how forgotten that war is... You can also see the poor state of medical technology at that time, the wounded numbers seem very low... I am guessing the tropical climate / lush jungle made the killer bacteria a huge problem on wounds.

i think that most of the US casualties from the Spanish American wars were from diseases and food poisoning. i think thats why TR created the FDA.
