yeah, they memory sticks, aren't they proprietary and more expensive per megabyte than other types of memory ie: cf and sd?

they're pretty close for the most part. Maybe the memory sticks will be like $5-$10 more depending on what size. That really wasn't a factor when i chose to go sony.

Shit, I wouldn't mind either of them. For a while I was saving up for a D70 or DRXT but figured it wasn't worth it to me at all since I'm not a profession nor semi-profession photographer.

I'm happy with my Kodak DX7440 but I wish it had a little bit more SLR-like adjustments.

ok i think ive narrowed it down to the Cannon Powershot SD300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830120160

or my friend at sony will get me the DSCP200, which is the camera that she has. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830150057

her discount wont even get the price cheaper than newegg, but she speaks very highly of it and it is a 7MP camera.

the Canon though is alot smaller and i think will suit my needs just fine. I went to see the musical 'Wicked' on Friday night and was using her DSCP200 to take some shots. It has alot of functions and seemed to be a nice little thing but again, the Canon is alot smaller and the sony was a load in my pockets when combined with my keys, money and phone.

Here are some questions I have for you guys. I never by extended warranties, ever. I usually consider them to be a waste of money because products almost always have a manufacturers warranty on them. I havent bought a camera before, so i wanted to know if you guys think i should get a warranty on my camera. Best Buy has a 4 year replacement warranty for both the Sony and Canon. thats alot of freakin money right there and im not sure about getting one.

Also, i dont know if i should get an extra battery. the camera comes with one and a charger, so couldnt i just charge the camera when its not in use? im going to Canada in two weeks for about 6 days, do you think i need an extra battery?

Im thinking that 512mb mem card would be good for a 4.0MP camera what size memory should i get for a 7.2 MP camera? i dont anticipate taking more than 100 pics....but i never thought i would have 20Gb of pr0n either.

thx for the help guys.

I don't see why you would ever need to use a 7.xmp camera. Are you going to blow any images up for posters? Point and shoot right? But you can always choose what size of a picture you want to take in the settings menu. With my 5.1mp sony, I can choose between 5mp, 4mp, 3mp, 1mp, VGA mode (e-mail shit webcam quality pics).

well the thing is that after shipping and taxes, the SD300 will almost be about teh same as the DSCP200, so I might as well get the more powerful camera right? its about a $40 difference. fuck me, im still gonna have to buy a memory card and shit.

ok, well i went to dell.com and bought the Canon Powershot SD300. I used a couple of online coupons to knock about $75 of the price. So I ended up spending $346.58 for the camera, 2yr warranty and 2nd day shipping. went to best buy and got a 128mb SD card for another $26.93 for a total of $373.51. Thanks for everyones help, now i gotta tell my friend im not going to get a Sony. shes gonna be pissed cause i had her look at over a dozen models.

current pic of Madmartagen should be in the photo album in 3 days.

rock:
