IQ vs that other Intelligent thing... forgot what it's called. All I know is that I'm high in Visual-Spatial learning.

It means you HAD an advanced sense of logic, children develop at all different speeds, you would likely score much lower now.

fuck, i can't remember the name of the one I took online. Sloi said it was one of the best ones available. If you got a certain score or something, you could join an online magazine club.

I got a 120 on it. It was one of the most difficult things ever. About 5 of them I just clicked a random answer.

Remember guys, IQ doesn't test how smart you are. It tests your ability to learn.

International High IQ Society tests are fairly good for free tests. The ULTIMATE and CULTURE-FREE should give you results within +/- 5 points of a proctored exam...

I take offense to that comment. You've probably just met the few members looking for validation through that society: if you actually attended a gathering, you'd be surprised how interesting and lively the discussion can be.

happy:

I think I would fit in. I just got into a discussion about the expansion of the universe with my old boss, quite titilating.

Its a measure of general intelligence (aka how smart you are), in what way would you argue it tests your ability to learn? I mean, if anything, they go hand in hand. IQ scores have always shown a coorelation to GPA, job success, stable marriages, and staying out of (or in) jail. Its safe to say that, to some degree, IQ predicts success in life.

Another thing that bothers me: most online tests will give you a score... sure, but it won't mention the standard deviation used for scoring. Most sites use a 24-point deviation so if you get 124, you're one deviation above average: professional tests will use either a 15 or 16-point scale so if you got 124 on that 24-point scale, your score on the 15-point scale is really 115. When people say "I got a 140 on that test", they're basically saying "I got 125 on a standard deviation of 15". Overinflation of scores aside, if people get 160 on a test and think they're Einstein's equal, they fail to realize his score was on a deviation of 15 whereas theirs was on a 24-point scale, making his score 196 on the same test they took. It's better to talk in percentiles.

[quote:ba7d5]If an IQ test is supposed to measure a person's intelligence, the question is: What is intelligence? Is it the ability to do well in school? Is it the ability to read well and spell correctly? Or are the following people intelligent?

The physician who smokes three packets of cigarettes a day?

The Nobel Prize winner whose marriage and personal life are in ruins?

The corporate executive who has ingeniously worked his way to the top and also earned a heart attack for his efforts?

The brilliant and successful music composer who handled his money so poorly that he was always running from his creditors (incidentally, his name was Mozart)?18

The problem is that the term intelligence has never been defined adequately and therefore nobody knows what an IQ test is supposed to measure. In spite of this the futures of thousands of children are determined by the results of this test.[/quote:ba7d5]

That's such bs... modern psychometricians know damn well what they measure with IQ tests: it's not a question of WHAT they're measuring but rather how much of intelligence they comprise, although the cognitive abilities/areas they quantify end up correlating damn well with accepted definitions of intellectual performance in a variety of tasks.

Thats incredibly stupid
We may not always agree on what intelligence is defined as, but we can certainly draw conclusions on what an IQ test measures and predicts. Plain and simple, IQ tests wouldnt exist if they did not relate to performance in the real world, and they DO. Read my post a few up...
We can definitly get into the theories of influential psychologists of the past century to show how bogus that stance is, but I dont really want to relive college pysch....
