Bill Clinton didnt desert. He just didn't serve - academic deferement no doubt. "Stupid war" or not, thats not up to this guy to decide. What if a cop decided he didnt want to save a family because of personal reasons? Or a doctor? A firefighter?

while i confess to not knowing the absolute begining of the war in Vietnam, wasn't that one of the reasons for the US involvement?

Our involvement in Vietnam was for the same reason we fought in Korea, to contain Communism. If you are against Vietnam, you should also be against Korea because they were started for the same reason. We also fought the cold war for the same reason.
