We made a commitment that we cant just simply break. if we were to withdraw from the UN, it sends a message that the US doesnt care about world affairs. An unstable world isnt good for anyone, let alone our country.

The UN has a meaning, I don't know every single law and department that the U.N has...no one on this board does. But I do believe the U.N is of great importance. But the U.N being started by the U.S it is initally ran by it, this has to obviously change. I find it funny that all the conservatives are telling the U.N/amnesty internation etc etc to shut up. Because they domintate their dissent anyways, something like 60% of americans support GITMO because they believe holding people unaccountable for 4 or more years is helping defeat the war on terror, I guess it's justifiable in the 21st century.

As for Gitmo. It doesn't really matter what the UN says. They have shown that all they do is blow smoke but never back up their words with action. My personal opinion is that we should either try the guys as civilians, or keep them as prisoners of war. (and I think there are guys there that fall into one category or the other - it would be difficult to lump them all into one group.) I think we shoud move them to the US mainland and put them in a regular prison, possibly in their own cell block. I just think that most of them have been there for so long that any information that they have is stale. You might also get more information if you put them in a regular prison, act like you forgot about them, and bug their cells.

like the UN helped stop the genocide in Rwanda? Oh wait, they sat idly by doing nothing. It needs to be reformed so that it actually backs up what it says and has some muscle, otherwise it's a watch dog with no teeth.

i said that as opposed to his argument of withdrawing from the UN, i think it should be reformed, why are you arguing with me?

I'm just saying, we should leave if it isn't reformed. I was arguing with you because you seem tot hink it's doing its job, I don't think it is. If you weren't saying that, then there is no argument.
