I'm really not a Beatles fan either, I like few of their songs, but I think they are largely overrated. I like the sound and style of the Rolling Stones better.

There are two cars available and price is no issue - One car is just generally better and the other looks like it has totally copied the better car in every aspect, save a few very minor features. It doesn't run as good either.
Which car would you choose?

you're forgetting that the original car doesn't run anymore. Some people like to see live shows from people who sound like bands they used to listen to.
My friend used to work at a venue in my hometown where all the cover bands I listed have played and each one brought in a pretty good sized crowd.

IMO, It's kind of stupid being in a band and playing someone elses music. It's like being a pop star - None of the shit you do is your own - someone else made it up.
I wouldn't have respect for myself as a musician if I were in a cover-band as opposed to a real band.
...and unless you're doing live shows, it's totally and utterly useless. Not to mention, there is no where to go in terms of musical growth when you're only playing other peoples' shit.
I guess that's what makes them "fuking ghey," as elstatec put it.

I know what you mean...I don't really see The Beatles as being the greatest musical triumph ever like alot of people I talk to. Maybe If I had witnessed their climb to super-stardom....
If Ferich reads this thread I'm sure he'll make a point against this.... happy: beer:

yeah, that's a good point, but I don't think they care that they are only playing songs they didn't write, I think most of them are completely obsessed with the original band's music, so they probably don't mind being unoriginal. Basically, they just cater to their own favorite music as well as the obsession of others with bands that no longer exist.

The Beatle's were an integral part of rock music's growth.. not because they had ground-breaking musical idea's or were particularly original.. but they brang it to the mainstream. Something like elvis, he did not create rock & roll, and in fact really did nothing to progress the genre, but he was market friendly. For a true look into the progression of psychedelic rock look into Frank Zappa's first album "Freak Out".. this album influenced the beatles greatly and was truly a mind-blowing record for 1966.
What i'm trying to say is, The Beatles may not be everyones taste but their impact on modern music is undeniable, not because they themselves were ground-breaking musicians, but because they brang it to the mainstream. And IMO The Rolling Stones are ridiculously overrated, even moreso than the beatles...
