ok ive decided to try this mother out but am an interweb nub when it comes to this shit. I dont have a newsgroups account I could sign up with comcast but they only offer 1 gig a month eek:

Go to games>PC then scroll down. There are like 10 doom 3 downloads. You'll probably have to try a few before you get one you can connect to. But before you do that I recommend installing another bit torrent program like bit tornado, because bit torrent is so fucking slow it would take you a week to download Doom 3.

com_allowconsole 1 changes the need to hold control and alt when hitting ~ to bring up console
i was wondering if there was a command that just brought up a maplist, i remember doom 2 had one
