Agreed.
Also, Metallica is not a pioneer for every kind of music today. I'm sure you don't like them, but DMB for example would not really be considered influenced by Metallica. Neither would some other unusual bands like Soulive and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. For the record, I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I have no problem with their stuff.

The Who
The Rolling Stones

Lots of bands that dont have talent dont have "The" in their name...

ok any band with "The" in the 90's and up sucked. And yes NFG did have The in front of there name if you look at the there first album it says "THE new found glory"

Hate is a pretty strong word...I'm gonna say the stuff I like:

1. Iron Maiden - always have been and always will be my favourite band
2. Any progressive, melodic metal like Stratovarius, Dream Theatre, Solitude Aeturnus, Iron Saviour, Steel Phophet, etc.
3. Heavy, gloomy, dark metal like Type O Negative, Kyuss, Black Sabbath, etc.
4. Old school 80 hair metal.
5. Insano shred instrumental guitar (Satriani, Vai, Eric Johnson, etc)

I love heavy music, but it's gotta have a hook. The band has to have a telented singer...nothing worse than a great sounding band with a singer who sounds like a pissed off Cookie Monster.

I've got a few comments about this subject:

1. Slipknot's first album is some great music. The second album was totally unnecessary.

2. Metallica should have retired after the black album. ...And Justice For All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning...all classics. Everything after the black album is damn near disgraceful.

My favorites:
Tool - nobody mentioned them, WTF?
Rage Against the Machine - F**k you I won't do what you tell me!
Soulfly - Heavy as hell with some sweet slower stuff for flavor, Max rules.
KoRn - Everything up to and including Children seriously rocked.
Eminem - can't help it, the guy can flow like a mofo.

I've got too many to list. My 400 disc changer is overflowing with good music. The only genre I truly hate is country. That crap needs to go away...

John, I almost had some respect for you. Now it's lost.........
