As far as I know Patton didn't win a VC, from what I can remember from my personal study of VC recipients it's only available for decoration of soldiers from nations that are part of the Commonwealth. ie Britain, Canada, Australia, NZ etc... He may have won a D.S.O. (Distinguished Service Order) these have been handed out to folks from other nations, it's one step below the VC in terms of prestige.

I'm pretty sure Audie was given the Legion of Honor from France as well.
American medals can only be given to Americans, and Commenwealth medals were only given to countries part of the Commonwealth. However there have been exceptions, but very few. Most were from WW1.
