Overclocking the 8500 would have given you far better results, as it is now your card wont do much more whereas the radeon had more potential.

Well, overclocking a Geforce 3 Ti 200 is

1) safe
2) stable
3) easy

while giving you about 15-20% increased performance.

Sadly, none of these 3 things is true for overclocking a Radeon 8500.

Maybe you are able to overclock your Radeon 8500 similiar without any problems. Then you're great. But some people prefer not living on the edge

btw, I don't know why you're such a fan of ATI. They make great cards, but for a bunch of "nice canadians" they sure tried a lot bad stuff. I remeber how they cheated on most Quake III benchmarks by giving drivers to all reviewers that drastically decreased the image quality in order to make the card look better on paper. At the same time, I don't understand why you hate nvidia. Sure, they release new cards every 6 months, but that doesn't mean you have to buy them. Not to mention that driver support for new and old cards has always been great.

well weel, first of all, ATI Radeon kicks Gf3 (Ti500) ass anyday, taking only the card performance. but the little place where gf3 outperforms big time ATI is on the "DRIVERS" side. ATI have the shittiest drivers ever, and for me drivers are really important. so yeah i put gf3 in top of ATI but theres also the price factor 2, but thats another story

Well I already posted my system specs in another thread.. But I currently use a GeForce256/32mb card. I think it's a Leadtek. Got it secondhand when someone upg'd to a GeForce2 Ultra.

Plays MOH reasonably well. I got my piii-450 oc'd to 522, not much but it gives me a few frames. And at 30fps or less (into the teens) outdoors I need all I can get. I get from 40-90fps indoors usually.

All that said, it's still highly playable for me & looks fine @ 800x600 with most settings on medium, though more fps would be real nice..

Maybe because nvidia do exactly the same thing with their drivers. About a year ago nvidia released drivers that had no level of detail bias slider. In the driver code it was discovered it was set to low to help boost quake 3 benchmarks. Of course a lot of sites overlooked this but as soon as a competitor does it, its front page news.

Most sites are probably getting backhanders from nvidia for good reviews.

hey carlson, have you tried turning off anti-aliasing completely + also turn off anisotropic filtering, i have the same set-up as you and was having the same problem, but now i've turned them off i've raised my fps by 20 or more, it runs at about 40-50 fps!
if u haven't tried that, i gurantee it'll help.
