The Germans were the ones who kind of introduced them into combat i think. The other armies (france especially) didnt pick up on the concept until the near end of the war.

The french were still marching shoulder to shoulder at the germans with bayonets fixed while they were being mowed down by the germans machine guns... oOo:

Call of Duty being a American, British, and Canadian...no, Russian...game I cant imagine another war that would let you play as three other nations.
