no, i know... i'm saying that Iggy and others were on the scene making music and such, but "punk" as a style/genre wasn't really realized until bands like the Sex Pistols (who exisited prior to 76 but only got major recognition for NMtBHtSP) brought it out of underground scenes... esssentialy punk existed, it just hadn't been officially "named" or whatever, but i would agree with you in your assertion that Iggy is likely the grand-daddy of punk...

Im fucking positive there were bands playing punk before the explosion.

Its impossible to say who started punk, its completely illogical.
