Well in bootcamp i shot a 216 which is sharpshooter. But today i fired a 50 (Point scoring is diffrent in the fleet compared to bootcamp...obviously oOo: ) And i havent really fired an M16 at a known distance range in..well a year. Last time i fired real rounds was back in august when we did MOUT training.

would you have to aim the weapon up more for the bullet to sink down and hit the target?

Yes. Anything over 100m you're going to have to do some thinking as to where your aiming. Same goes for wind speed left or right.

Pretty much, the M16 bullets if your in kinda close you need to aim low because the bullets actually rise up coming out of the rifle, than eventually go down with distance.

No, we shoot a total of 50 rounds.

At the 200 yard line: 5 Sitting, 5 Kneeling, 5 Standing, In a total of 20 minutes (Quite a long time but mind you that gives you time for the people in the pits to mark your target and run the target back up to see what you hit, for you to reload the magazines and change positions.) Than we got 10 rounds in 1 minute for the "rapid fire" from the kneeling. (1 Minute is a long time for 10 rounds but we can only have 5 rounds in each magazine so you need to reload)

Back at the 300 yard line: 5 Rounds kneeling in 5 minutes, than 10 Rounds in 60 seconds "Rapid fire" from the prone. (same 2 magazines 5 in each)

At the 500 Yard line: 10 Rounds in 10 minutes in the prone.\

24 and below = Unqualified
25-33 = Marksman
34-39 = Sharpshooter
40-60 (i think 60 is max) = Expert

Thats really similar to what we do, except without a 500.

Start at 400 in prone, run to 300, fire 10 prone, run to 200, fire 10 prone, 5 kneeling and 5 standing, run to 100 do another 10 prone, 5 kneeling 5 standing get up run to 50, fire bursts to round out your last 10.

It's something like that. Called the rundown. The number of bullets fired might not be exact as I did it last year and can't remember exactly. It's fun, and very fast. Probably only takes 10 minutes or less for the whole thing. It's really difficult because you have to fire after running, which is difficult, especially in the standing position.

And our ranges are automated and there's a computer that tells you where you are shooting on the target so you can see if you need to adjust your sights, and its good for zeroing and to see your groupings. No people in the pits. Goes a lot faster.
