Seriously download Art of Balance, and Stepping outside the circle by Shadows Fall. Two best songs by them IMO.

Godsmack, he said metal not pop.
Here is my list. I even did it by song for you. (Plus cations for some songs... happy: )
Absu - She Cries She Quiet Lake (Amazing drumming....)
Amon Amarth - Fate of Nords
Arsis - Return
Bathory - Father To Son
Bathory - Flash Of The Silverhammer
Behemoth - Anything from Thelema 6 or Demigod
Bloodbath - Outnumbering the Day
Bloodbath - Eaten (maybe to growely for you, but the it's so fucking heavy...)
Canopy - Symbiotic (amazing melodic death with no label, I'll send you the link if you are interested)
Catamenia - Calm Before the Storm
Celtic Frost - Dethroned Emperor (old school thrash - fathers of black metal)
Dark Fortress - Self Mutilation
Dark Lunacy - Cold Embrace
Dark Tranquillity - Punish My Heaven (similar to old In Flames just a lot better)
Dawn - Stalker's Blessing (melodic black... not sure if you'd like it)
Dimension Zero - The Final Destination
Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie (growely, but one the best songs ever written)
Edge Of Sanity - Covenant of Souls
Enslaved - Havenless
Finntroll - Jaktens Tid (folk black metal, I think you'll like it)
Graveworm - I: The Machine
In Flames - Episode 666
Kalmah - They Will Return
Necrophagist - Diminished to Be (great tech death)
Satyricon - Mother North (ala top sig)
Slayer - Angel Of Death
Suidakra - Signs for the Fallen
The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Nailed
Thyrfing - Mjolner (similar to Finntroll)
Venom - Welcome To Hell
Windir - Todeswalser
Windir - The Spiritlord (both are bit hard to listen to at first... but it's so good I'll kill you if you pass it up)
Wintersun - Death And The Healing
Woods of Ypres - Dragged Across A Forest Floor
You should be good to go now. I didn't add anything too brutal. happy:

I don't think they are the greatest, but yeah, they have good music. Anyway, you should be happy they are not around anymore, then.

I don't really care. Undeceived was okay at best. The ones after that were just horrible. I've heard better metal from stepping on my cat's tail.

i believe a few (and proably only a few) others may relate to this. was in magazine store today .....happened to see judas priest on the cover of a mag. picked it up. it was revolver magazine. never heard of it. opened it and realized: baby, you are getting old. didn't recognize one band until i got to the article called "Great 80s Metal Bands". the clerk is still wondering who the idiot at the mag rack was yelling " fuck that, they rock/rocked ". i didn't buy the magazine but i did pick up generation kill instead (the audio tape).

I get that too because I don't know anything about modern American pop-metal.
Maybe you should expand your metal searches... There are some kick ass modern thrash bands that would make Anthrax/Slayer/Kreator/etc proud.

appreciate it but metal started scaring me around the time of crowbar. i fleed with my beloved priest tapes back to old philly soul and r & b soon thereafter. every pic in the mag looked more like the band members were more pissed off at something than rebellious. guess being rebellious is now accepted.

Hook me up - I've looking for some great Thrash-Metal bands......I like the screaming/shouting vocals, but I dislike the monster voices/grumbling....Unless it's taking the piss somewhat (a la GWAR)....

See if you can find "Reanimation" by Sacrifice. That's a goddamned classic. Canadian band, too.
Some more goodness:
Death Angel - Bored
Death Angel - Seemingly Endless Time
Voivod - We Carry On
Voivod - Astronomy Domine (awesome Floyd cover)
Helloween - I Want Out
Dio - The Last in Line or Holy Diver
Actually, speaking of Dio, check out some of his Sabbath-era shit. It's so underrated it's not even funny. Great stuff.
Black Sabbath - Neon Knights
Black Sabbath - Die Young
