few people realize what a struggle these brave men went through to take that beach. sometimes i think it is forgotten in this era of political correctness

In my original post I wrote : "I respect Omahas US soldiers".
But I respect ALL SOLDIERS of WW II; Germans, Russians, US, Finnish ...

In FPS games, the big problem is that they are "First Person" games : you can see the action like it is/was.
Of course, you can't "feel" the action very well.
With MOHAA, not only in the Omaha mission, but in the whole game, you "are" in the action, part of the action.
And this action is/was WWII...
that is the main difference (IMO) between Operation F.P. or QuakeIII and MOHAA.
We play/simulate REAL EVENTS.
And the fun thing in that (I don't know if "fun" is a good word...) is that those REAL EVENTS was often an important part of our fathers or grand fathers life.

Mr. Click-

You don't know much about World War II do you? Your attempt to come off as an informed person about the Pacific War and in particular the atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan was really sad.

The only other alternative was to invade Japan, a move that would have ended up in over 500,000 U.S. casualties, and who knows how many Japanese casualties. I'd guess maybe 7 million Japanse casualties, in fact.

The U.S. dropped a bomb on Hiroshima. That didn't work. Japan still didn't want to surrender. The U.S. dropped a second bomb, this time on Nagasaki. The Japanese military leaders were urging the government to keep fighting. Thankfully, the political leaders in Japan, namely Hirohito, thought it'd be best to surrender before any more atomic bombs were dropped.

Prior to the atomic bomb explosions, the U.S. released thousands upon thousands of threats to the Japanese via B-29s, about this atomic bomb device. They laughed. We dropped. They didn't give in. We dropped again. They finally surrender.

The decision to drop the bombs was one of the best decisions in the 20th century.

Yes, but remember one thing: the people that died when we dropped the atomic bombs were civilians, for the most part uninvolved with the war. Had we invaded, SOLDIERS would have died. I'm not saying we should or should not have bombed them, for I do not know enough about it to have an opinion. Just something to keep in mind.

mmmm... I don't know if you are right or if you are wrong QualityControl, hard to say, I'm not a military expert.
But with this bomb, 99% of the casualties were civilians... I don't know if it was a good thing.

Omaha, Stalingrad, Hiroshima, all those events ARE war. IMO, war is like an other dimension, something that I don't understand. In fact, it seems almost unreal.

I have heard (or read) somewhere :
"War reveals the worst part of men, never the best, always the worst."

I just wanted to say that the guy who started this post is really cool, not often u see a eropean guy give us suport, i dont know why every country in the world hates us, but anyways, those people who said that u waisted ur time, they are the punks that guy was talking about that piss me off. They are just some computer nerds that have no respect for history and the great men who died, it sickens me everyday that nobody cares. those men died so we could be free and yet the lazy punks act like they deserve freedom and dont have to work for anything.

I wonder why.

The reason why you guys are respecting ww2 and omaha beach particularly, is beacause alot of movies and games are based on it. It's like you actually lived the moments. After all, they were soldiers, they had to sacrifice, they had to defeat the enemy by all means. And don't forget what happend to the innocent civilians in japan with the atomic bomb.

also about dropping the atomic bomb on japan... how else were we to end the war? an invasion of mainland japan would have caused millions of deaths on both sides, and this is a very little known fact but, the japanise were the first people to discover the jet stream, using this to their advantage they made balloon bombs, bombs that would travel east over the pacific ocean untill they reached mainland USA... now there are only 4 known casualties from these ballon bombs, a family picnicing in northern oregon. well i live on the outskirts of seattle(in the direct line of fire of balloon path of destruction!!!) and i know that if a balloon bomb landed on my house i would nuke them dirty japanise in a heartbeat. it think the bomb was the best way to end it. if hitler or japan wouldave created one first, you know they wouldave done the same to us!

More than soldier would have died. Civilian casualties would have been in the millions.
