[quote="Airborne Butters":acda1]Okay let's say your George Steinbrenner. Now say you're building a team and for some reason you actually want to win. Are you going to buy a bunch of shitty players, or will you buy players who are good at the game? Yeah that's what I fucking thought.

The truth is that it's trendy to hate the Yankees now. In the words of black people "Don't hate the player, hate the game."[/quote:acda1]
You make me laff.

As a fan of the game I find that a team with a bunch of good guys with a modest payroll defeating a "team" of great players made of up money absolutely fuckin' fantastic. And to see them collapse year after year gives me such warmth.

And by the way, it's even more trendy to love the yankees, oh I don't know, since about 1996.

its not a trend, the yankees have always been a team you either love or you hate.

its just been compounded because they are seen as what is wrong with baseball and why a salary cap is needed.

What do you mean year after year? I would think that a team that wins their division and makes a good showing in the playoffs, ever year, would be a good team. They haven't been able to make a good drive in the the world series, but they're still a good team. Oh and sorry that I've been cheering them on since 1985, since I was born in NY and my family are huge fans.

PS Butters - I'd rather cheer for a team who's come up from such low ground and who is truly a team with every man contributing (even if they lost)...than a "team" who's only together because they have payroll needs of over 200 million dollars. That's no team, that's a wasted lump of money.
So what you're saying is that every player on the yankees is a worthless waste of cash who get payed for a lot of nothing. oOo:

Do you even watch Yankee games, or are you blowing this all out your ass because your daddy told you never to root for NY?

I have nothing against the players themselves, my point is that you can't buy new stars every year and expect them to just click, like that.

In the Bronx it's come down to not what you do in the regular season, but what you do in the playoffs, and in that respect they haven't shown what they're worth.

And no, I've been a baseball fan all my life, I formulate my own opinions thank you very much.

And YES (pun) I do watch Yankee games on occasion, I have MLB.TV

I hope Toronto can make another good showing next season, this was their best season since 1993. We have been on a downer ever since the lockout of 94.

(maybe we can snatch a playoff spot next year !)

That would be sweet

...still having only 4 teams make the playoffs in each league...i think it should be at least 6.
