My neighbor works for the Secret Service. Up until last year, he was a sniper assigned to the presidential task force, but he's been reassigned to a collaborative task force under the umbrella of Homeland Security to crack down on MS13 in DC. Apparently these guys are bad news. They are known to have cut the heads off of rival gang members. I think they found a body in Arlington near the B&O bike trail. Anyway, my neighbor gets to bust down doors and kick the shit out of these fucks. He said that it is a lot more exciting than protecting the president. He told me in El Salvador, the cops will execute these ass clowns on the spot. That's why a lot of them flee to the US, because if they're caught, they're dead.

That's not what he's saying, Stackem.

There are gangs in Canadian urban centers, yes. Do we hear about drive-bys and gang-related violence on the news every second day? No.

There are gangs here in Ottawa, yet I've never seen one nor have I ever heard of major gang violence here.

It's probably the US media making it seem like gang violence is more pervasive in the States. I dunno.

I live in a rather quiet area: no gangs, nothing spectacular ever happens. In fact, I doubt that downtown Ottawa has anything similar to MS13: back in high school, my friends (to some extent, myself included) were about the closest thing you could get to a gang and even though they would never fess up, we were fucking docile. It was the look more than anything else.

Bingo. The toughest gang in Ottawa is the buncha suburbian "gangstas" who rough up old ladies on the 95 at Fallowfield. happy:

are you saying Canada does not have gangs? You should clean the sand out of your ears, you head has been burried in the sand too long. I have never had a problem with gangs and I have grown up in the Detroit area all my life, thats not to say there are no gangs in Detroit it is just I have never had a problem with any. From what I understand Toronto is filled with gangs but Id imagine if you are smart you know where to go and where not to go. It is the same in every large city in the world, there are places you go and places you dont[/quote:eea27]

Not at all.

There have been shootings in Calgary and gang related activities, however, it's not a huge problem as of yet. Edmonton has a bit of trouble with gangs...I’d probably say their one of the worst places in Canada for gangs, but I just don't see gang related crime as a huge issue in Canada. I don't really thing there are any places in Calgary that I couldn’t or wouldn’t go. There are bad parts of the city, but there aren’t any places that if I walk into, I’ll get confronted. I can walk downtown alone at night no problems. And this is in a city of one million.

I can only speak for the places I’ve spent a lot of time. I have lived in Calgary for 21 years. I’ve been all over this city. I don’t see a gang problem.

I’ve been to Toronto and walked all over the place there since driving takes way too long. There are probably some places I wouldn’t want to go in Toronto for sure. Same for Montreal and Quebec City, although I spent minimal times in all these places so I don’t know them as well as Calgary.

Are gangs a problem in Canada? Absolutely. We have them, every country has them. As long as they exist, they’re a problem. Are gangs in Canada disruptive to the effect that I can’t go to the places I want to go? I’ve never had to think about gang activity in anything I have ever done.
