-quoted by that article

The United States planned to take over Upper Canada (the basis of modern-day Ontario) and Lower Canada (the basis of modern-day Québec) in a single mass attack. The invasion was to occur at four strategic locations: across from Detroit, in the Niagara area, at Kingston, and south of Montréal. If they succeeded, they would isolate and then capture the stronghold of Québec City, thereby cutting off any further British troop movement up the St Lawrence River and into the Great Lakes.

There were wins and losses on both sides during the two years that the war lasted, with no clear victory for either of the warring parties (the Treaty of Ghent signed on 24 December 1814 maintained the status quo). The British colonies, however, remained independent of the United States and their inhabitants would continue to forge what would become some fifty years later the new Canadian nation.

Pyro, while it may be true that the U.S. diplomatically lost the War of 1812 Canada was reigned in at the 48th parallel and England stopped raiding American ships. America took over the trade in hemp and we got a nifty little song about kicking the crap out of a bunch of redcoats down in New Orleans. All in all I'd say we did allright.

And a Happy Canada Day to you.

Ottawa was crazy last night..Kalan Porter was singing and we all booed him! the fireworks were crazy, I got some pictures of them, I just have to resize them, then i'll post them..the bus ride back was the best..so many people on the bus were drinking and smokin (cigs and pot), the bus was boxed. and there was this HUGE block rave in the market..all in all a good Canada Day.

damn l337 yankee wallh4x0rs you hid in the trees & shot the officers, rather bad form that. Anyhoo we don't have a blighty day because we never had an independence thing. We do have St Georges, whenever that is & Trafalgar celebrations were yesterday, I prefer to celebrate being a limey redcoat brit every Friday night by going down the battle cruiser & gettin fkd out my face rock:
