I believe alot of its subconscious - If you hear 'ipod' more than any other mp3 player's name its natural that you're gonna think of that when you think of an mp3 player.

...I think the initial foothold of ipod was through the advertising campaign and the fact that 'mac was back,' with a vengeance....But in the long run, quality and support secured that initial foothold for ipod, allowing them to dominate.

When you spend that much money on something - you want it to work (with the amount of people that have an ipod compared to other players - whether or not the quality is actually there is irrelevant, we just assume it is because of how many people own one) an you want to be able to potentially add to it later on (with accesories etc), ipod is really the only player that had as much accesories, different colours and variables and also models....This is why in the long run people will continue to buy ipod over other players.

I would say a lot of it has to do with marketing. I'd be willing to bet that most people don't even know there are alternatives to an iPod. They see them, they hear about them and that's how they know them. Creative and even Microsoft haven't made good enough advertising efforts to make their products household names. Like I said, I'll bet you could ask most people if they knew what a Zen or Zune was and they probably wouldn't know.

This might be random but i think its kind of related - two years ago in my high school mp3s were banned. Some day a kid comes with an ipod walking down the halls with it on and the assistant principal stopped him and asked him " why he has an mp3 player on campus?" and the kid responded with "this is an ipod.." Some days later there was an announcement saying that "Mp3s and Ipods arent not to be allowed on campus."

ps. wtf is so hard about loading itunes and draggin songs to it and sync ipod with it? oOo:

pps. this is my ipod http://www.solarnavigator.net/computers ... le_mac.jpg and i have a nano 2...

Ok, this is begining to piss me off but there may be 2 factors at play here.

1. iTunes really does suck ass or
2. My n00bness with this stellar program is shining through

Problem: Adding songs to my "library" and have 136 songs but can't add more. Is this the limit of the library and/or playlists? Would another playlist need to be added?...or would this be where you'd use a "smart playlist"?

nvm, figured what was going on. Apparently if you have a band/artist/or group that starts with "the", iTunes by default ignores it and places it in order of the 2nd name. For instance, if you have a group called "The Love Bite", iTunes will list it as "Love Bite".

Yes and The Rolling Stones is listed in the R section, which i like because bands arent named "The".
