[QUOTE=Jotun;890129]buckethead is alright, but there are better shred guitarists out there, by far.
Dillinger Escape Plan is pretty sweet, they are playing here in a week or so with Every Time I Die.
this is intensity.

Buckethead isn't a shred guitarist though. He's avant-garde. He learned from Paul Gilbert, who is more of a pure shredder and technically a better shredder. There's a lot of stuff that Buckethead does that I don't like, simply because he is avant-garde, but he has a lot of material that is awesome, and hardly has any shred in it at all.

at first i read this and i thought you said Paul Gilbert wasnt shred, and I almost freaked. reread it and yeah, i agree. but buckethead definitely can/does shred sometimes, and i think thats why most music morons (you know, the people who think they listen to metal when they hear dragonforce or avenged sevenfold on the radio) tend to say "buckethead rules" because they hear his shredding ability for 20 seconds. buckethead is good, thats for sure, but there are better guitarists out there, depending on what area we're talking about. Guitar World (i think) had what they thought the top guitarist of each category was, and it was a pretty good list. Paul Gilbert was on it, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix, etc... i forget their categories though. Im pretty sure Paul Gilbert was the fastest.

I think Paul Gilbert is the best shredder in terms of being one of the fastest and still maintaining some semblance of a melody. I'd give Michael Angelo Batio fastest shredder in the neo-classical style. That guy is hardcore, but he only does the ridiculous stuff every now and then. Buckethead's not the best, but he's my favorite for his innovation. I guess that makes sense.
As for Avenged Sevenfold, their lead guitarist sucks dick (Synyster Gates I think). I've been playing guitar for 2 years, and I can play all the shit he plays a lot cleaner. He uses the same boring ass riffs that have been used in metal for 40 years. In fact, most of their riffs are shit I started out learning when I started playing. The only reason people like Dragonforce is because they think they're playing a lot faster than they really are. they use a lot of distortion to give the illusion of incredibly fast playing. Compare a studio version to their live performances and it's a dead giveaway. Not to say I can play as fast as Herman Li, as I certainly can't, but I'd rather play something unique than play musical ejaculation on my fretboard.

i can agree with that.
Michael Angelo Batio is an amazing musician, his technical skill is out of this world, but he has no visable emotion. he looks like a robot. whether he has emotions or not, i cant say, but you definitely cant see it from his playing. thats why i like Satch and Vai more, even if they cant play everything Batio can, they just seem to enjoy playing more than him, and i think that makes a difference. thats why i love and support Jason Becker so much, he had passion.
and nyck, lol, sooooo good.
