I'd have to say the best WWII game is Day of Defeat.

Its by far the most realistic, and pays far more attention to authenticity and realism then any of these other games.

DoD has almost every major WWII weapon, with better skins then BF1942 and MOHAA. And the gameplay is so much better. You actually have to watch your back, stay low and be smart. You would never think of running out in the open strafing back and forth spraying your Thompson.

MOHAA is the best WWII game graphically.

I must say the vehicles and large maps in BF1942 are great. But the infantry combat = barf. Just TRY to hit a moving enemy with the rifle. I've sat prone in one place for a long time wasting countless bullets on enemies running by, and still havent hit one. Even if someone is standing still, it doesnt always take them out in one shot. The rifles in DOD are so fun to use, you can actually hit people. And they usually go down in one hit like they should. It should also NOT take a full clip with the Thompson to kill one guy. I should be able to take out 4-5 guys with one clip (DOD).

I like BF1942...but it just doesnt give the WWII feel DOD does. Its just like mohaa, everyone runs around in the open spraying their assault weapons at each other, complete Deathmatch. Not war-like at all. DOD you actually have to secure an area, and clear out all the enemies before advancing. BF1942 you could just run by a bunch of guys and they probably wouldnt even hit you.

I guess this is just my opinion, but DOD is far more realistic, therefor its more fun. But vehicles definately = win.

Its not worth arguing about peoples opinions towards video games. Of course it will vary between person, and there is no true way to put a title of "best WWII game" onto a game.. because of course it will vary between people.

does "best" matter?

all battlefield 1942 would be doing by claiming to be the best is trying to sell more games. I think that there are games that fit into 2 categories:
1) games that SUCK
2) games that dont suck
I think games like MoH:AA, RTCW, DoD, and BF1942 are all amazing games, so who cares which one is the best, they all fall into category # 2.

P.S.- i dont think MoH:Expansion can go wrong in any way, esp if there's a Pacific Theatre.

Indeed, the IGN professors are correct. I really hate fun.

The worst part is, you actually think this game is the best WWII game ever or something

It may be "good" in your eyes, but DEFIANLLY not the best ever.

Recycled Spooge 09-25-2002 08:25 PM

OH, and I forgot the mock the stupid idea of the radar in the game. :/ Play what you like.

Well its easily the best of the current crop of games.

Radar only shows enemy held areas and your team mates, it doesn't show the actual enemy positions so its not like its 100% useful or anything.

DoD is IMO the best multiplayer WW2 realism "game" (if you want to call it that) ever. The graphics may not be top notch, but if you get the new high poly user-made models, even the iron sight models are awesome. It is in the top of my book for realism in a game/mod whatever. BF1942 is good, but it needs some heavy modding in the infantry area.

well i dunno. I dont think any downloadable mods for games should even really count. But im definatly awaiting spearhead. I was VERY dissapointed to see that the brits nor russians had authentic weapons. Really, since when did Russians use Tommies?

I personally like it, I think it's alot of fun just plummiting planes into boats. I goof off when I play, crash jeeps into tanks, drive the subs into boats, etc. The game isn't horrible or anything, but I think EA did a good job with supporting all the vechiles ingame.

That ^ is what most of BF1942 is about hake:

I think Slinky is right about DOD....It's the best Multiplayer game with amazing gameplay and realism, the graphics arent even that bad, there are tons of little details and ambience sounds that add to it anyway. Battlefield 1942does need a lot of work with the infantry. The funny thing is, Half-Life is 5 years old, and nothing has surpassesed it. All these FPS games coming out try to create a Half-Life style game, and they just cant make it as good. HL was revolutionary, and it's still the best

Well i never played day of defeat i just got BF1942 its Very good but if you want a very big army of thousands and you set the settings for it it lags the game right up the pipe but who knows. for some reason when i went to get it on the first day it came out it was sold out. Lets just all hope that EA pulls out somethin good in the expansion seta of MOHAA cool:
