Stalingrad?

Innoxx 12-22-2001 05:40 AM

that was a kickass movie, i wish band of brothers was a movie but its a mini-series,
the thin red line was a good contemporary war movie,a bridge too far was also good, but my fav would have to stalingrad that was good.
i don't know if this is classified as a war movie but schinler's list was good its the only movie that made me cry
shut up! it wasn't really crying it was more sobbing, er, i had something in my eye

SPR isn't close to being the best war movie.

I don't really think you title a war movie the best.

Platoon- good movie
FMJ - Bootcamp part was great, war part wasen't that good.

A bridge too far - Great WW2 film, very long though.

Longest Day- Best D-Day film!

I'll post some more when I remember more.

I think SPR was pretty historically correct, of course they may have done a few things wrong but there are actually many little details that most ppl may not notice, like when they look at a map u can see al the routes and things that were actually taken in the operations....and u can here certain ppl talking in the background about a different operation....there are even signs in the french villages pointing to other towns that were important like Cherbourg and stuff. I also saw small german signs on walls too....there are many little details, but of course some things that make it innaccurate too.

I'm a BIG fan of Full Metal Jacket myself, also Saving Prviate Ryan was obviously very good.

geRV 12-22-2001 08:25 AM

Well spr screwed up on a load of stuff. IF you go to imdb.com and check out the goofs they made its madness.

Even the SS division they were fighting at the end of the movie. When they blow up the german halftrack one of them says its the 12th SS division, according to what ive read they weren't even in france at that time lol.

Loved it.

(Band of brothers, but that's a serie)

SSGermanOfficer 12-23-2001 01:50 AM

Ahh yes, there were many a good movie i liked before saving private ryan, but i can remember the first time i saw spr, i was just won over, and every other movie, just seemed outdated, it broke new ground, nothing was as real as this movie, amazed i was, the 1st,2nd,3rd time i watched it at the theatre : )

Doom5 12-23-2001 10:26 AM

What was historically inaccurate about The Longest Day? Please share.

12-23-2001 10:43 AM

Let me see the D-day...

Also MOHAA is inspired by SPR

MB 12-24-2001 04:36 AM

Best war movie, well one of them: Cross of Iron by Sam Peckinpah.

DuckOfDeath 12-24-2001 05:20 AM

Das Boot
SPR
Paths Of Glory
Platoon
Thin Red Line
When Trumpets Fade

Sorry but Enemy at the gates was one one of the worst films I've seen in years, the acting was terrible http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Bean 12-24-2001 05:34 AM

Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket. U didnt specify which war so im say Full Metal Jacket. And Pearl Harbor did suck a whole bunch.

I hated Hamburger Hill. My fav. war movie is probably Thin Red Line.

colonel_ hogan 12-24-2001 06:33 AM

well I recon Kelly's heroes was the best war movie I ever saw followed by spr. Kellys heroes had everything-great war action, comedy and story. I mean Donald Sutherland was so funny and Clint Eastwood was really...well Clint http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Milla 12-24-2001 06:37 AM

I liked kellys heros, It was a funny movie. I like full metal jacket to. That movie is cool

well hamburger hill is the most historically accurate Vietnam war movie. They actually Fought fo that damn hill and damn near all of those events actually happened, yes even the Huey strafing our own troops.....most people didn't like it because it showed the Grim underside of War,not the hollywood "gets to the top and wins" type of CRAP....I love it be cause of it's attention to detail....

historicly correct

Jim008 12-25-2001 07:25 AM

I would've picked Band of Brothers but since they're a mini series i have to say SPR.
I dont really care if it's historically accurate or not but it was still one kick a$$ movie.

FuBarGrn 12-25-2001 07:33 AM

DAMN i forgot about all those sub movies....well here is a WEIRD "war?" movie....dunno if you kids have ever seen it,but Iknow us older folks have...lol
THE FINAL COUNTDOWN....now THAT is action...In NO way historically correct, but damn fun watching...

BallisticWookie 12-25-2001 08:41 AM

Best for me and most realistic, not necessarily historically accurate but showing the horrors of war:

Saving Private Ryan
Thin Red Line
Platoon
Hamburger Hill
The Longest Day

I'd probably put Band of Brothers in there too, but seeing it hasnt been on in Australia yet I cant really say. I'm sure it would be up there though.
