France, Canada, Germany...WTF?
There are calls of outrage from France, Germany and Canada because they will not be
allowed to tender for any of the multi-billion dollar reconstruction contracts in Iraq...? I thought they'd all made it clear that they didn't want any involvement...so why bitch now..? rolleyes: |
They said no in the first place, no use to come crying now.. eek:
|
You should let us open some TIm Horton's franchises over there. Everyone would forget their problems, lay down their arms, beat the face off a 20-box of Timbits and slurp large double-doubles.
It would happen. |
...yeah, that would've helped....they'd have to be "halal" Timbits tho.

Yeah maybe you guys should do some research first.
Canada, just a little while ago, happened to give Iraq 300 million dollars for reconstruction of the country. From the US ambassado to Canada, Paul Cellucci: [quote:86d62]"I'm not going to ask any country to over-extend its forces," Cellucci said, noting Canada has made a valuable contribution to rebuilding Iraq. "This is where Canada has been quite generous with a $300-million commitment and in helping us rebuild Iraq."[/quote:86d62] Canada also led a multinational naval task force in the Arabian Sea during the war which escorted U.S. ships through the Persian Gulf. So were expected to give money to rebuild Iraq, and then were told that we haven't put anything forward and can't bid on contracts? That makes sense. |
germany and france can get the contracts to rebuild berlin and paris after we level them.
|
Well, as far as France goes, I wouldn't let them rebuild even if they helped fight,
remember a little something called teh Charles de Gaulle, that carrier was at sea for 3 days and the propeller shafts broke down, if we let French engineers in to rebuild, we'll have a popular revolt on our hands biggrin: But as far as other countries: this just proves that Bush's real motive was to satisfy his rich campaign contributors, not to protect us from terrorists or to save teh Iraqis from and evil dictator. I was hoping all the naysayers were wrong, but it looks more and more like they were right. |

That is true to a great extent. I mean, who do you think is going to rebuild Iraq? Probably Haliburton, the company that Dick Cheney was an executive. I believe they were also investigated by the SCC for fraud. On the other hand, it was known that since the US blew the shit out of Iraqs infastructure, we would have to rebuild it. I wish Bush and his friends wouldnt monopolize on it. |
forgot russia... rolleyes:
|
dude, who voted yes?
|
I did. Problem with that?
|
All I have to say is, that the U.S. are lucky they still have allies, bunch fucking morons. The U.S. is lucky that nations like Canada, France, Germany, and Russia still want to help after that horribly unnecessary "conflict". It was their dumbass idea to go into Iraq and accomplish absolutley nothing (that is if you are looking at their real objective, which was finding WMD). Just in case you guys didn't notice, it's that Canada is a peace-keeping nation and I'd think that's what you'd want over there right now helping you assholes rebuild Iraq.

I am still undecided on this. Canada - maybe, france - hell no, germany, russia - meh. Look, all of these countries have had ample opportunity to kick in and "help". Its only become an issue once money was involved. Kind of reminds you of whores, doesnt it. |

[quote:e9d4a]Canada supports reconstruction fund and police training in Iraq
(2003-92) News Release October 24, 2003 Madrid, Spain – International Cooperation Minister Susan Whelan, Solicitor General Wayne Easter and Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham today announced that Canada will contribute to the International Reconstruction Fund Facility for Iraq and will send police trainers to Jordan to help train Iraqi police officers. "Today I am announcing that Canada will contribute $100 million to the proposed new fund," Minister Whelan said from Madrid, where she is leading the Canadian delegation at the Madrid International Donors' Conference for Iraqi Reconstruction. "Our view at this point is that there are sufficient conditions in place to give us confidence that the fund will serve to move Iraq's reconstruction agenda forward. Pledges made here in Madrid are essential signals to the Iraqi people that the international community stands behind them, and there are prospects for the future for stability, recovery, and self-government. Iraq cannot be allowed to fail." The initiatives announced today are part of the total $300 million Canadian commitment for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Iraq. "Canada was one of the first countries to signal a major commitment to helping the Iraqi people rebuild their lives," said Minister Graham. "Practical contributions to the reconstruction fund and to governance and security sector reform in Iraq represent our continued follow through on these commitments. The Madrid Donors Conference is another important opportunity for the international community to signal their support, and Canada urges others to come forward." Minister Whelan also provided details on the police training initiative that will be managed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). "Canada will set aside $10 million from our pledge to send Canadian police trainers to Jordan in the coming months to train Iraqi police officers. Canada will also send a senior Canadian police officer to Baghdad to help develop strategies to strengthen the police sector," Minister Whelan said. "I am pleased that the RCMP and Canadian police community are lending their well-known expertise to this effort, drawing upon their extensive experience in international training and peacekeeping," Minister Easter said. "This is further evidence that Canada remains committed to reconstruction efforts in Iraq by supporting the strengthening of governance, human rights and democracy and security sector reform." Funding for these initiatives was provided for in the February 2003 federal budget and is therefore built in to the existing fiscal framework. [/quote:e9d4a] |

france and germany shouldnt get shit. russia should stfu, all they want is the investment they wasted on saddams regime. i dont know who else is off the list, but not participating shouldnt get you completely disqualified. france germany and russia openly opposed any path we tried to take and tried to lobby other nations to block us, i think they are the only ones who should get assed out.

Let 'em burn.

Well, I can't speak for the US of Britain, but it's cost Australia a fucking fortune (That we don't have) to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, so we need all the revenue-raisers we can get. Hopefully, a Contract or two will be slung our way biggrin:
|
So as long as you can line your pockets with American dollars your all for rebuilding Iraq. How about if any contract awarded to these countries be paid by the country that wins them. I for one am tired of paying for all this shit. Who rebuilt Europe after WW2. Who rebuilt Japan after WW2. I can understand why the Chinese hate us so much because we didn't rebuild thier country, but holy smokes, why doesn't the Bush family rebuild Iraq out of thier fat pockets?
I feel much better now. Thanks! |
I think Canada should get some of the dough, France & Germany can suck on it though. cuss:
|
When they refer to countries who didn't support the US, I took it to mean countries that denounced publicly - or refused to support publicly - the war itself in Iraq.
The countries who are NOT on the list of those disallowed from contracts have had the blood of their young men and women spilled on that soil. Just one life is worth a whole lot more than $300 million. Period. And don't forget that there are almost NO restrictions on subcontracting, so it isn't like the countries who invested only money will get absolutely no return. It might just take a bit longer to make the money back. No matter how long we wait, the lives of those soldiers can't be regained. |
Yeah, well while soldiers were dying in Iraq, Canadian soldiers were dying in Afghamistan. Does it make a difference?

Bush to Chrétien: don't worry about Iraq contracts
Bush to Chrétien: don't worry about Iraq contracts
Last Updated Thu, 11 Dec 2003 12:42:28 OTTAWA - Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said Canada won't be excluded from contracts to rebuild Iraq. At a news conference with China's premier, Chrétien said U.S. President George W. Bush called him Thursday morning and told him to ignore reports in the media that Canada will not be eligible for the contracts. "He told me not to worry," Chrétien said. He said Bush wished him good luck on his last day as prime minister and thanked him for Canada's military role in Afghanistan and the country's financial contribution to rebuilding Iraq. The White House has come under fire for saying it will shut out countries that refused to take part in the U.S.-led war on Iraq from bidding on $18.6 billion US in reconstruction contracts. Chrétien said he's feeling nostalgic on his last day as Prime Minister. "I will miss many things. I will miss the press believe it or not. But on the other had, I intend to be very active. Chrétien said once he's officially retired, he won't comment publicly on the new government. "I will observe from home and as I promised with no comment." "If (the party) goes too far to the left, I will say nothing. If they go too far to the right I il say nothing. It's not my business." |
WOW HOGMAN!!! I am quite impressed, did you come up with that insult all by yourself? I can see you must have put a lot of time into that one. Hahaha Fuckstick, I have to write that one down. What a fucking idiot! In reply to that post, a bit personal you say? If you were an Iraqi, and the U.S. came into your home and bombed it to shit, I'd bet you'd call them some worse things than assholes! Try looking at it from a different perspective!
|
Quote:
The only countries 'black listed' were ones that flat out said no. Many countries not on the list never sent a penny or a soldier to aid in Iraq, they just never said no. Don't make flat out assumtions. Canada gave hundreds of millions to the US for Iraq and has offered a number of times to send RCMP personal over there to aid in rebuilding the Iraqi police force, being turned down by the US everytime. Now they say we refused to support them in any way! Also, they state that there are "security" reasons as to why Canadian, French, and German companies shouldn't be allowed contracts. That's Bullshit! What the US Government has done is very unethical, under-handed, and bad politics. hake: |
oh well
|
Canada is not being refused from Iraqi resconstruction contracts, so I don't know what you're talking about.
|
Quote:
Try and have a discussion where you you don't lump us all as being assholes and I won't say anything. No I am not Iraqi and my guess is that you aren't either. No one bombed your house so why don't you go back to writing down my insults and shut that fecal eating orifice you call a mouth. the_finger: the_finger: the_finger: |
