France, Canada, Germany...WTF? -
12-10-2003, 02:57 PM
There are calls of outrage from France, Germany and Canada because they will not be
allowed to tender for any of the multi-billion dollar reconstruction contracts in Iraq...?
I thought they'd all made it clear that they didn't want any involvement...so why bitch now..? rolleyes:

You should let us open some TIm Horton's franchises over there. Everyone would forget their problems, lay down their arms, beat the face off a 20-box of Timbits and slurp large double-doubles.
It would happen.

Yeah maybe you guys should do some research first.
Canada, just a little while ago, happened to give Iraq 300 million dollars for reconstruction of the country.
From the US ambassado to Canada, Paul Cellucci:
[quote:86d62]"I'm not going to ask any country to over-extend its forces," Cellucci said, noting Canada has made a valuable contribution to rebuilding Iraq.
"This is where Canada has been quite generous with a $300-million commitment and in helping us rebuild Iraq."[/quote:86d62]
Canada also led a multinational naval task force in the Arabian Sea during the war which escorted U.S. ships through the Persian Gulf.
So were expected to give money to rebuild Iraq, and then were told that we haven't put anything forward and can't bid on contracts? That makes sense.

Well, as far as France goes, I wouldn't let them rebuild even if they helped fight,
remember a little something called teh Charles de Gaulle, that carrier was at sea for 3 days and the propeller shafts broke down, if we let French engineers in to rebuild, we'll have a popular revolt on our hands biggrin:
But as far as other countries: this just proves that Bush's real motive was to satisfy his rich campaign contributors, not to protect us from terrorists or to save teh Iraqis from and evil dictator. I was hoping all the naysayers were wrong, but it looks more and more like they were right.

That is true to a great extent. I mean, who do you think is going to rebuild Iraq? Probably Haliburton, the company that Dick Cheney was an executive. I believe they were also investigated by the SCC for fraud. On the other hand, it was known that since the US blew the shit out of Iraqs infastructure, we would have to rebuild it. I wish Bush and his friends wouldnt monopolize on it.

All I have to say is, that the U.S. are lucky they still have allies, bunch fucking morons. The U.S. is lucky that nations like Canada, France, Germany, and Russia still want to help after that horribly unnecessary "conflict". It was their dumbass idea to go into Iraq and accomplish absolutley nothing (that is if you are looking at their real objective, which was finding WMD). Just in case you guys didn't notice, it's that Canada is a peace-keeping nation and I'd think that's what you'd want over there right now helping you assholes rebuild Iraq.
