Dear 2015,
I am starting this petition for one purpose and one purpose only, the removal or limitng of sniper rifles from the Omaha Objective-match map. (obj/obj_team3) When it was announced that Omaha would be a multi-player map I was both happy and distressed, because Omaha has always held some of the largest potential for any multi-player map ever. Without a doubt, the intentions of the map are to pit an allied force against an axis force, with the allies having to run up Omaha beach under heavy machine gun fire, as it was in real life. However, no matter what incarnation Omaha appears in, it ALWAYS turns into a sniper fest. The axis cannot safely approach their machine guns(intended to be their main advantage) because there is always an allied player huddled in the higgins boat, behind an obstacle, or even in the water behind the higgins boats with their crosshairs trained on the Axis machine guns, waiting for an axis player to take hold of one. The moment that player does they are almost instantaneously killed. Now it is not only limited to the bunkers, any axis player that moves their head above cover is almost always killed by an allied sniper. Not only does this seriously detract from the fun-factor of playing as axis, it also removes the axis’ main advantage. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, like every other attempt at a D-day map before it, has failed at re-creating the situation in a fun and playable form. It is my sincerest hopes that 2015 will not simply dismiss this petition, but rather that they join a server and experience first had how frustrating the map can be for an axis player. I realize that removal of sniper rifles from the d-day map could be considered an extreme solution, therefore I have listed a number of alternatives (any ideas I am made aware of will be added to the list) 1) Removal of sniper rifles from both teams. 2) Removal of sniper rifles from allied team. 3) Create an invisible wall around the 2 main axis bunkers, in which bullets may pass out of, but not into the bunkers (this would allow the axis to mount the machine guns without fear of being sniped, but would allow the allies the keep the sniper rifle, this is my personal favorite solution.) Sincerely, TheGreatHio. **NOTE: Anyone who replays to this thread will be considered supportive of it, and your name will be added to the petition. You have been warned.** [This message has been edited by TheGreatHio (edited January 24, 2002).] [This message has been edited by TheGreatHio (edited January 24, 2002).] |
i vote for the barrier.
since in the real invasion it was stated many times that shooting at those bunkers from the beach was pointless because it just wasnt possible to hit those guys. [This message has been edited by madrebel (edited January 24, 2002).] |
i think instead of removing snipers from the map we should limit the amount of snipers per team. question: if you put invisible wall in axis bunker, it will also block all the bullets from other weapons right?? so that would make all the axis inside bunker invincible right? i don't think it's good.
|
but madrebel how about bazooka? it will be useless.
|
I vote for the no snipers, the barrier would be ok too, but since ive never been allied, i wouldent know if the Germans could be shot in the bunker with a M1 or allied weaponry from the beach

Im agree with petition.

thats more like it. at least we could still have a little fun blowing the bunker.. hahaha
|
You brought up some pretty good ideas there. Class limits could solve this problem but class limits are not in the game...yet.

I wonder if the guys on the beach on June 6th 1944 could vote for "no snipers"??
hmmmmm.......? Truppe ------------------ http://members.optushome.com.au/truppe/Truppe.jpg |
soon, soon http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif
MOH:AA will be great, just get some simple mods out there to even the score a bit http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ http://trenchsig.20m.com/images/trenchsig135.jpg Achtung! |
i think some kind of wind effect on the sniper scope would possibly fix this. i've noticed this too and it does get rather gay just having to stay down below or in the bunkers because 6 jack asses are camping on the higgens boats.

well i think the MOHAA team should be able to work out a script or a patch somehow for class limit.. i'm not good in this kind of stuff but i have faith in them!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! com'n U dont like shotugns! U odnt like Rockets U dont like Sniper rifles!!! COM'N!!! learn to counter them u n00b!!!!

I think that where the bunker slots are where the mg 42s are placed to make that area a shadow so no snipers could see them, but see there fire from the guns therefor they would have to guess where to shoot. Or they could make the map hella foggy so no sniping is posable at all until u get close to the bunkers but its too late then when you getting fired at...... Solves everyones problem....

well i don't mind all the team use sniper. there's a lot of way to counter them. but it's boriiiing seeing all snipe each other. where's the fun?? it ruins the game..
|
I will play this map some once I get the game and form an opinion then. I think it would be a good idea, but then I wanna see for myself.
Watch this space. |

[2nd SS]ENiGMA was right on track.. you kids complain about bazookas, shotguns, sniper rifles, now you want invisible force fields? If I was your father I'd force you to enlist. The ONLY unfair advantage anybody has is when they cheat (using codes/patches/hacks, etc). For every one "unfair" advantage you beleive the springfield presents, I could list one counter disadvantage to using it.
|
here we go again....
i'm sure there's no harm done in class limit. you will still got sniper, bazooka or shotgun. |
a invisble barrier around the bunkers=LaMe sorry to say but the no snipers idea is Perfect
|
i agree with the no snipers for allies, and even for axis too. but the invisible barrier, i don't really agree with that. the allies need to be able to shoot and have a chance of hitting something. it would be hard still for allies without a sniper rifle!
to the people that say 'suck it up and live with it' with the sniper issue, they have never been up against 5 snipers that are actually skilled, you won't get anywhere on a wide open level unless you snipe them. cmon guys this is about balancing the gameplay. dont accept mediocrity from 2015. these things should have already been in the game. |
I don't think the maybe a limit on the sniper rifle would be better? 1 per team.
The invis wall thing I don't really agree with because it would make the MGer invincible and that would be gay. |
well maybe not one per team. how much is one team? maybe like 1 sniper for 5 person, and so on ( feel like bargaining in the market http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ) what's ur opinion?
|
Sheesh...how about we throw helmets on Omaha...no weapons at all...
I think it is fine the way it is. I agree that it is stupid for the allies or axis either one to have too many snipers, but if either one does, the objectives cannot be met. Snipers die in the bunkers. Period. On both sides. I have hardly seen allied snipers up on top. Why? because when they get into the bunker they face plenty of SMG's, MP-40's, and shottys(and grenades http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ). The sniper rifle is mainly for bu of the main attack and keeping your machine gunners and shotties safe into the bunker. If too many are using it then the objective won't be won. You may rack up a bunch of kills, but the team will not win. And the idea of the objective maps is teamplay and winning the team objective. I have been on the winning axis side plenty of times...I have played on servers where the axis team was able to give plenty of hell to the allied team. If they blew the guns...they earned it. And I never heard one complaint about snipers. Maybe if people would learn how to play the game and maps, then we would see less posts like this... ------------------ ~Mange~ http://members.home.net/aqstudios/previews/sig.jpg |
OMG i can't believe there is a discussion about changing the game! IT came out what? 36 hours ago? my god, the sniper rifle doesn't cause problems for the game. For one, i do just fine on the map with the m1 garand, which is the weapon that the allies all had during D-day. Second, it's just as easy to snipe the allies if your an axis. The Axis have bunkers to hide behind and plus with the map as multi-layered as it is, they can run down to beach side and not get hit. So everyone please stop this stupid thread of mindless bitching (sorry for the language) and just go enjoy this magnificant game.

The sniping thing can be a problem. And as many of you say it cant be countered, well, it can...
In the SP Omaha, If you aint crouching behind a hedgehog, then you be dead bitch! (Sorry for the random ebonics) SO...what Im trying to get at is that in the Single Player Omaha, not only did you have both bunkers with both MG42's with a man on them, but you also had the krauts behind the sandbags firing at you with MG's... It just requires VERY hard teamwork on the Axis side. I mean, its even easier in Multiplayer, with the freaking beach being only like 1/4 of the real size. ------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/sig.jpg [This message has been edited by Syphon (edited January 24, 2002).] |
Hey limiting Snipers to 1 per team is better than having the whole team snipers...AGREE TO THE PATITON////
|
As for those of you who are saying for the axis to 'work around it'- you obviously have no clue as to the whole POINT of the omaha map, the axis are SUPPOSED to be able to use the mg42's, but with so many allied snipers they cannot. Anyone who says or thinks otherwise is quite simply, a moron.
[This message has been edited by TheGreatHio (edited January 24, 2002).] |
lol...and how many times have you played it? you have one post here...and your calling those who disagree with you morons...well, the only moron I see here is you...
Whether that is the way it is supposed to be or not, it still works. Read my above post because I am not going to repeat it. ------------------ ~Mange~ http://members.home.net/aqstudios/previews/sig.jpg |
I agree with Hio here. Snipers are out of hand on all maps. I know some people freak out and say learn to play against them, etc. Sure thats a point, but when you start a map and everytime you stick your head out from where you spawn and get a round in the head everytime, it gets old. It is TOTALLY out of hand on the Omaha map for both sides, you get the Axis plinking off the Allies in the open which they have to run into to get up the beach. Then you have the Allies plinking away every machine gunner the SECOND his hands hit the handle. THAT is what ruins the playability.
I have played plenty of times when each time is like 90% snipers, LAME, something has got to be done. I gladly sign on the dotted line. ------------------ http://www.enter.net/~eaglerm/Eagle0001.JPG |
No way, I'm all for snipers.
Invisible wall that lets bullets go out, but not in? Yeah, that's just as realistic as 32 snipers storming the beach. While your at it, why don't you tip the odds even more in favor of the Nazis...give them invisible walls, make all the Nazis invisible, and turn on your God mode crap. Christ, it's bad enough that I have to fight through a wall of TKrs just to get up the beach and now you want even more power given to the Nazis. Oh, and don't forget the mortars that are dropping on our heads! Look, limiting the snipers is fine with me. But you might forget that when a sniper gets killed, he drops his weapon. Thus, making it available for other soldiers to pick up and use as long as they drop their own weapon somewhere along the way. If the rifle would shake a bit until the player got set, that would be fine with me too. But eliminating the snipers is a bad idea. We had them and the Nazis had them. Deal with it. Next, I'll get TKd for my sniper rifle just so they can pick it up and use it for themselves. ------------------ http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcfo...dd65d86b89.jpg |
I'm all for using any weapon available. I noticed quickly however that to stick your head up on the axis team, or to try to use one of those roosts, or the MG emplacements, is suicide. So I never get near the edge. I stay back by one of the entry points, and camp. Yes, I'm no longer a target, but the whole beauty of the beach, the cliff, the bunkers, is wasted. Basically, the design idea for the map is all for naught. It's hosed. The other maps are great, but this map was supposed to be the main draw. What a shame.

I think the guys who say that the Springfield has disadvantages and can be countered are not getting the main issue here.
The point is, the map was designed to recreate the Omaha beach landing of June 6, 1944. The map designer placed 4 MG42 guns for the Axis to use to help repel the Allies from making it to the "shingle". When the Allies have no limit for the number of snipers on their team, there are invariably some number of players who choose to sit in or near the Higgins boats and simply place their crosshair on an MG42 and wait. The MG42's were put on this map to be USED. Think about it - when you jump on a server with more than 8 people that is playing Omaha, do the Allies EVER have trouble blowing the shingle? NO. EVERY server you go on, the Allies will do that in the first 10 seconds of the map; the rest of the round will be the Allies trying to plant the explosives. At this point, things are a little more even because the fighting becomes mostly CQB where machine guns, rifles, or shotties are the way to go. If you were to either a) fully disabled Allied snipers or b) limit the team to ONE sniper, the Allies would have more of a challenge completing the first objective. If that still does not convince you, remember this: The emplaced MG42's are NOT that good. The rate of fire in-game is NOTHING compared to what the ROF was in real life; in MOH they fire at something like 800RPM, where in real life they were about 1600RPM. So with the Axis manning these guns a LOT of Allies would still be able to get by. But like I said - it would be more of a CHALLENGE (the way the map creator meant it to be) for the Allies to make it to the shingle, instead of running straight to it in 10 seconds because they have 3 snipers watching all the MG42's. |
OMG. I odnt knwo who said it but he said the poepl that say they live wiht the sniper rifle have never been into a sniper war vs 5 sniper!!! What do u think i am!!!1 A FREEEGIN SNIPER!!! there a lot of ways to counter people!!!! Rifle get in close. Sniper rifle up close SMG long range. MG close range. Rcoket ESTREMLY long range or raelly close tange. shotungs long range. HAPPY!!!!!!!! its not that hard. And with the allies sniping. Get a sniper file and shoot back! Or get a smg and get on the beach and rush em!
------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/luftwaffe.jpg |
You don't get it, Enigma. Nobody said that the snipers are invincible and can't be stopped. What we are saying is that the map, with MOH in its present state, CANNOT BE PLAYED IN THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED - with the use of the MG42's. Remember, we are talking limits for OMAHA BEACH ONLY - not every map in the game.
|
Globule you have said it more than perfectly.

I think what some people are trying to say about the sniper controversy is not as much as the sniper whoring goin around in the Omaha Beach...but the fun factor itself on what the Beach is supposed to represent and that is.. on the Allies side..it should be harder for them to storm the Beach because of those 4 MGS that the Axis have...and on the Axis side..they should be able to use the MGs at its full capacity & not be abandoned most of the time due to sniping.
Anyway instead of that, it is not the case because if you had played the Omaha Beach map then you would know that it takes only a few seconds to use the gun before being sniped. It's a known fact. This notion of changing your strategy isnt the issue.. there aint much strategy you can implement from getting your head blown off by a sniper whenever you get on that machine gun. The bottom line is, those MGS are useless because its just instant death from a sniper which makes the appeal of Omaha Beach less appealing and I think that's what the petition is all about. Those MGS are there in Omaha Beach for a purpose and that's to make the Allies advancement difficult. Unfortunately its pretty useless when you have snipers up the wazoo. |
