The Best Game Ever...?
Oi!
I figure, of all of you, i have a pretty solid fan base of Gamer Enthusiasts (tm) and guy's who've no doubt lost a good part of their life to FPS's. Where could you possibly find such a perfect grab bag of gamers to quiz for the best game ever? Consider this market research. I'm working on a mod right now, and the basic idea is that it's like Dawn of the Dead / Resident Evil in an FPS. You've played Resident Evil. You know it's a ridiculous maze of uninspired puzzles you never find in real life. You played Undying (maybe? If you didn't...you sack of manjuice you...), and it was a failure because althought it was scary, it ultimately ended up drifting off into other dimensions with weird hell levels and shit. I want to make a zombie FPS that is TRULY scary, that has a very personal quality. Almost like They Hunger for Half-Life, Except nothing paranormal, a very solid scientific solution to zombies, and a very personal and frightening experience. I want people to attach to characters and really feel the pull of the days weeks and months as they go by. HA! You say too ambitious? I say not ambitious enough! Either way, consider yourselves hot sexy market research. Here's what i'd like to ask. Feel free to post as many times as you want with ideas, but here's the rules: 1: No major plot points. Don't start suggesting "Ooooo you should visit KK's bedroom and like blow it up with explosive dildos LOL hawhaw". The story is already written out and planned. 2: Your post can't be more than 2 lines. Get your idea and your plan out there in 2 lines. This is to encourage you to be simple and to the point. 3: You've got 2 lines to make one point, and then every other post has to be a seperate point. 4: Although you can't suggest plot, subjects totally open for discussion include anything else, from major characters to weapons to scare tactics to music and lighting. |
Zombies = Overdone.
Theres your market research. |
You want a game to freak the piss out of kids like me? I don't know your plans for the setting of the story, but a damp setting (everything is silent except for the dripping) in a dark hallway in a abandoned apartment or something would freak me out. Let alone if you add the zombies who jump out of cuphoards or dark corners or something..........ok nvm im gettin carried away oOo:
|
Play the thief series on PC and watch 28 days later. thats good inspiration for a good game about the undead.
|
Can you give us a little idea of what you have planned? A brief, summed-up preview maybe? We may be able to give you some better ideas if you at least give us an idea...

pffft Dawn of the Dead pwns 28 days later |
Dimmed lights and exploding things.
Also, stuff that comes from underneath the ground would freak me out. |
Metal Gear Solid (series). Most in-depth story, characters, and level interaction i've ever seen.
|
Forgot to add; Make it hectic, fast as fook. No time to think, just kill or get killed.
|
yeah, like above, but then make there be paprts where you are just walking around, in the dark, and you only have like, a ray of light, and there are bodies of other people/fellow soldiers or whatever, depending on who the main character is, and make like, there be zombie things quickly run in and out of sight, and hear screams of people near you getting slaughtered and screaming for your help
|
make the only weapon shotguns
|
yeah, the guns should all be powerful guns, so its adds to the gore, like miniguns, magnums, shotguns, flame thrower, grenade launcher

Thats a horrid idea Maple.
Perhaps "realizm" in this zombie shooter would be nice. You know not requireing 4 mags to kill something is a nice change of pace. |

Considering he said he was going to have scientific reasons for the "zombies" to exsist. One can only assume that the brain would still be required for the body to function. Placing a round into the skull should have about the same effect on this "zombie" as it would a living person. The same could be said for the circulatory system, digestion, resperation, and all other fuctions.
|
I never saw dawn of the dead. But everyone knows that the way to kill a zombie is to inflict sever trauma to the brain, ie sever the head, shoot the brain, or blow the fucker up with dynamite. flamethrowers and rocket launchers are, imo, unrealistic in this genre. I think that a good zombie story starts with an ordinary person being stuck in the middle of all this shit. That being said, he would not have access to flamethrowers and heavy hardware of the sort. I agree that a good shotgun should do it.

1. This is a mod for what game?
2. I would suggest a 6 shot revolver, and a Shot gun. |
pvt jacksun sniper rifle
|
Wait to mod DoomIII or half life 2, i dont see CoD as being able to have scary things.
|
The ability to carry only 2 side arms, akimbo as an option. 1 primary rifle/shotgun. No military weapons for 90% of the game, only civilian availible ones. Military weapons only available if you have a map/part of a map, where the "Army" had been slaughtered.
Magazine count instead of round count HUD. Re-usable half magazines. IE i fire 5 rounds from a 30 round magazine. Change mags to keep top count after using all full 30 round mags, i can reload the 25 count magazine. |

I want to use a lead pipe........or some other blunt object. You should also be able to hear some soft tissue damage. Sound and lighting is important to build tension. Lots of moaning and screaming, intense music when zombies bust through the windows, closets elevators etc.

Rather then having zombies... you should fight midgets. Midgets with explosive didldos, and I should be the end guy and you can only win by going into my room and using the explosive dildos to blow it up.

Call it 'Attack Of The Anal Pissers.'
|
I thought you were talking about Chrono Trigger, you know the best game ever and all.
|
Forgot i even made this topic...
But yeah, i'm back with a lot of answers: 1) Think Melee. A LOT of melee. Call me Canadian, but there won't be a lot of guns just sitting around in people's houses or on the middle of a counter in a bar in this one. We're talking a wide variety of Melee weapons, from aluminum bats, to, i shit you not, a sword. Just one though, lets not get carried away. Brooms, Metal Poles, even a handful of shit you just throw, like a pencil and a cd case and a bag of chips, and it slows them down a second by blinding them. 2) Zombie explanation. I know they've been done to death. i know. But they've been done into the ground because they've always been done wrong. Always some weird alien curse or a fallen meteor awakens them or some voodoo spell. No more. This will be far more scientifically based. I really suggest if possible you peruse [url:daab1]http://www.fvza.org[/url:daab1] for the basis of my theory: In essence, The virus spreads by blood. It begins as a parasitic virus that breeds in tropical ticks and mosquitos who get transported to Norht America when a hurricane causes some tropical island chains to send poor crop yields over disguised as quality goods. The ticks attach to smaller animals and even some to humans, and then bites spread it across. In reality its close to a disease called Necrosis, but with this it will be enhanced into a disease which causes the inner organs to fail, bringing on a coma associated with what looks like death, after which the subject rises from the coma and moves like a fast zombie for blood. But as their time wears on their body essentially falls apart and they slow down depending on how long they've been a zombie. Thats a mouthful. 3: It's basically urban combat in 5 locations. It begins in a house. The whole first chapter will be about the main character trapped in his house watching the world fall apart over a few months. Try reading [url:daab1]http://www.alphadog.tk[/url:daab1] for a good feeling on that. Then the second location is when he escapes from his house and is wandering the streets looking for a new safe holdout. Alot of surviving day to day and finding places to sleep/things to eat. The third is when he breaks meets up with a few survivors on a bus who end up crashing into a mall and using the bus to block the zombies from getting in. They hole up in an old movie theater until they're forced to escape. Then the 4th one is them moving through sewers and streets again to get to the local hospital to escape with the helicopter they think is on top. A zombie bit through the power cord to the hospital though, so they've got to get up 10 floors with no power or lighting. In an old hospital. Infested with zombies. Its where the infection began. Spooky enough for ya? 5: Yeah, its gonna be HL-2 engine for sure. Fuck Doom 3. I'm sorry but fuck it. There will be no textures/models/anything reusable for a normal earth setting if i want it. 6: KK, it's spelled Dildo. I mean every chick your with having to use it and all, i would've assumed you'd know how its spelled by now. |
Sounds like a nice game, but what you are thinking of doing is gonna require a LOT of work and time. And your going to do all this alone? Good luck beer:
|
HaHA bloke! I'm in an animation class, so we're organizing it as a class project ;);) I just get to act as director and guide the process along, and writer. And level editor. And cock-whore.

i wanna remake of system shock 2
idk how many of you know about sshock, but i think it is hands down, one of the best games ever...it was so engrossing, with an amazing story line, immersive (yet dated) graphics, and the first incorporation of rpg and fps genres (jus before deus) it had zombies (humans infested w/ worm parasites), and tons of scary make-you-jump-put-of-your-seat shit i would wait for hl2 or d3 to do it, forget about cod |
mmmmm SS was good for lighting
I'm definitely gonna hit on that idea And yeah, what a shame COD was good for nothin else |
What you have so far sounds good. Really good, infact.
I'm tired of games that just drop you in the action with no "logical" explanation for what's going on, but your's does good on that part. Yeah character development might mean a lot in this, try to show a bit of his/her past in some of the cut-scenes or whatever, or maybe when he/she has drifted into sleep maybe show their past in dreams or something. That'd be pretty cool. cool: |
Also, you may want to look at things that have worked. Getting to drive vechilces would be a bonus as long as it doesnt interfere with the story line. The ability to weild, say, 2 pistols at once, has been totally ingored in a lot of shooters, and I think you should consider integrating it.

sry mustve overlooked that.

1: As for vehicles: You will be in some, but not driving. If i started incorporating vehicles it could get ugly. Either i give them the ability to take a car, in which case they're wondering why they can't steal a car any time and drive into the sunset, or i give them dicky weird little vehicles that only work in certain areas, that really will remove the realism of the game because it's simply too weird to be driving. In the case of cars, once you have a car, the whole thing becomes open ended really, and you want to drive off anywhere, when in order to improve character development, the whole thing is a little linear at points. Plus i just can't map the whole world for ya, sorry ;-) In terms of dicky little vehicles, think like a zamboni: Yeah, you'd probably find one at some point, and you could definitely restrict it to just a big hockey rink or something...but once you hop on that zamboni, you're immediately pulled away from any of the horror elements. It's just like "weeee i'm on a zamboni! Fuck this!!!"
So, the solution is largely the bus driver: any cars you do come across will either be just visible on the map but not reachable, or will be busted so bad you obviously couldn't use them. When you meet the bus driver however, they will drive the bus and you can be in it, and then you still script an awesome crash sequence, but you're in a vehicle. 2: For Akimbo: Lemme think about it. That gets into some pretty hard coding at points unless HL-2 already has it. And although it could be done indeed, i'm not sure if i'm sold on the idea of letting a horror character feel like an action movie character. I'm trying to shy away from too many guns altogether. I definitely agree that not enough games let you go akimbo, especially when they push around how realistic they are. But again think in the confines of a horror game, if you're in a creaking groaning hospital listening to moans down the hall with nothing but a flashlight to lead you on, having some dual AK's is going to make you a lot more ballsy than having a broom you found downstairs. Please, get back to me on your thoughts! |
