Speeding Tickets.......
I have this friend in Austraila, and He just told me about the ticket system there. He said they fine you based on your ability to pay. ie...Bill Gates goes 5 over, gets hammered for 5 mil, poor guy go 30 over, pays $100. I don't know, it kinda makes sense, but seems too overdone to me. What do yall think????
|
I don't think one person should be more penalized for breaking the same law just because they have more $$. Everyone kows the traffic laws and everyone decides for themselves if they are willing to risk a ticket. If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime.

I'd be mad about a $100 ticket if I had $200 in my bank account or $2000. |

Even if you were a pro athlete making 20 mil a year? |

Still. So you're saying if bill Gates murdered someone he should get life in prison, but if someone making 25 grand a year does it he should get what community service. It is all the same reasonings behind it. |

wow. thats a whole years worth of work for alot of people, 2 years for even more people. |

that's different, being incarcerated is equally tough for anyone, it don't matter if you're rich or poor; but a monetary fine's impact on a person is inversly proportional to their salary. |

Horribly subjective, biased system: why should my punishment be harder than that of another individual's because of my success and productivity ? You need an objective system that treats every entity the same regardless of social standing or ability. Of course, safety nets could be put in place in one form or another. Failing that, short-term incarceration suffices. |
this is a hard issue to side with, on one hand i can see the point of having fines proportional with your income for fairness...because like previously stated a 250 dollar fine kills normal guys but to someone making over 500,000 a year its really no sweat. but that being said, the whole idea of charging someone more based on their income goes against the whole princible of equality before the law which is a cornerstone of english law and therefore in my opinion is a bad idea...before the government everyone should be viewed equal rich or poor.

A: "You're guilty of murder in the first."
B: "Crap ..." A: "However, due to the fact that you have three children, we'll let you go. Be warned: next time, there will be a FINE." See where this is going ? Absolutely retarded. You've committed the crime, pay the price. |
i think if a high price kills a lower income person its good cause they will be less likely to do it annoy: or they should just take your license away for afew months
