That cvar is cheat protected in MP. To use it in SP you have to launch the game w/ +set cheats 1 at the end of the cmd. line.

That is good then...nobody will be able to use it in MP.

I don't know why the development team considered this a cheat, but it is probably for the reason pdiddy2k mentioned.. If you bound 'toggle cg_3rd_person' to a key and adjusted the 3rd person angles, it could be turned on and off easily and used to see around corners w/o revealing yourself.

I enabled cheats through my shortcut but I still get the message about 3rd person being cheat protected. I'm using Version 1.1, any ideas folks? I'd love to fool around with it, but I can't figure it out.

Since when is being able to play in 3rd person a cheat?If anything it would make the game HARDER, NOT EASIER! Obviously you lot dont have a clue what a cheat really is!

Here's a hint: God mode, Unlimited Ammo, All weapons, Restore health! Something that gives you a MAJOR advantage over everyone else! All third person view is, is just that, a view! It DOES NOT prevent you from getting killed, giving you extra ammo, giving you extra guns, giving you extra health etc!

yes!! i got it working . i forgot i patched the game the other day . it needs to be unpatched for you to enable 3rd person . the 3rd person view is even better then deadlydozen's 3rd person . http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks man , i'll copy that . what i mean is having 3rd person view asigned to a key like "f1" for rogue spear or "c" for deadlydozen if at all possible . but thx anyways .

To bind it to a key you would type into the console something like:
bind <key> toggle cg_3rd_person
where <key> is a valid key like F11 or F12.

Or you could make a file called custom.cfg in you MOHAA/main directory and put the bind in there and it would get run everytime you start the game. If you put the bind in a cfg file then you need to do it like this:
bind <key> "toggle cg_3rd_person"
w/ the quotes and again where <key> is a valid key.

But keep in mind that w/ v1.1 this cvar is cheat protected so this will only work in SP. Also for the people having trouble, another thing to try is in addition to the '+set cheats 1' add '+set thereisnomonkey 1' to the end of your command line shortcut as well. I have heard that is needed as well for cheats to work, but I am not sure.

Yeah, you have to set +set cheats 1 in the command line - should have mentioned that. I can't see why anyone would want to use it in SP, let alone in MP. It's bloody difficult. I am using version 1.10, by the way.

I think that using third person in multiplayer would be almost impossible, where would you have the crosshair, besides 3rd person view would take all of the fun out of the game.

Not sure if this was already posted, but I haven't been here in a while. Anyway, to play the game in the 3rd Person, type cg_3rd_person 1 into the console.

that is why it would be bad for 3rd person to be enabled piedude. we're not saying it would be better for someone to play with it on. but to be able to toggle it would give someone an advantage. I dont really consider it a cheat, but it shouldnt be in this game.

I was visiting websites while waiting for people to post some threads on this and I had already found that thereisnomonkey thing.. So overjoyed with finally finding my problem I went to try it out. Alas, the dreaded "This is cheat protected." message still plagued me and I've yet to get past it.

Here is my command line:
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESMOHAAMOHAA.exe" +set cheats 1 +set thereisnomonkey 1

So here is the really cool part... I figured maybe 3rd person was just being stupid, so I tried to activate any old cheat. So I typed "dog" into my console and can you guess what happened? I got a lovely message saying that cheats must be enabled on the server with the command +set cheats 1.

So what the heck... as you can see by my command line I obviously have the thing set. So I guess there is something else to it. Where exactly are you guys using the cheats? I've tried to start a new game, I've tried to load a mission in the middle, I've start to start at beginnings of missions, nothing ever works... So what now guys, would love to hear your answers.. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif

Apparently some people think it necessary to revert back to retail version, but it looks as though some people are getting things to work even WITH the 1.1 patch, so I don't think version is an issue.

But yes, I have the 1.1 patch installed.

Well try going back to the 1.0 retail and see if it works.

Yah I'm trying it only in SP mode, I would never dream of cheating in MP. I don't have my command line here at work, but I've posted it on this thread (one page back, I believe).
