5 years ago today....where were you.
Attacks on our own soil shook up to the core. I just woke up from my wifes dorm and jumped in the car to go home and get my work clothes. I turned on sportsradio wanting to hear some commentary on the sports world and heard the radio guy say "We would love to talk about sports right now but a plane has flown into one of the world trade center towers, this is something big" I remember thinking it was total horseshit and they were gagging. Then I got home and saw the tower smoking with a huge hole in the side of it. I still remember it vividly and watching that second tower being hit live on tv. It was a surreal experience and I can say that on that day with all the rumors spreading about attacks in different areas it was the 1st day I was ever afraid from watching televison.
Lest we forget those who have lost their live on that day. RIP to those who died in New York, The Pentagon and in that field in Pennslyvania. |
Walked downstairs in my boxers to find some trousers that had been ironed. And heard my dad shout "oh shit" from the living room, I walked in to see what he'd done, to just catch the second plane fly into the tower.
RIP all those that died on that tragic day. |
Came home from college > made something to eat/drink > turned on Sky News > made this face ed: > watched TV for the rest of the day; it was compelling viewing.
|
I was in my office glued to the comp to get more news
|
I was 10, getting ready for school and didn't really understand what was happening, I remember saying "This is the kind of news i like".
RIP |
Woke up, took a shower, was told that "We were under attack", and went to school.
|
I had just dropped my daughter off at school and on the way home I heard about the first plane on the radio. I got home and told my wife. We turned on the TV and a couple of minutes later the second tower was hit. I had planned on being home and working out of my home office that day so I was able to sit in front of the TV and watch it all day.
I've been listening to Howard Stern's rebroadcast of his show from that day. I wish all Americans would remember the raw emotion, fear, and anger from that day. I wish they would take the time to listen to the horror in the broadcasters voices as the towers fell. I wish they could hear the chaos of that day and the sirens of emergency vehicles rushing to the towers. I wish they would all say a prayer for the families of those brave men that went up the stairs to try and save people. |
i was in art class making paper mache masks
|
I was in a computer class, when they announced the attack, we all left to the cafeteria to watch the news ed:
|
I was asleep in my bachelor pad and my buddy John called.
John: "Ger, turn on the TV." Me: "Dude. it's like 9 a..." John: "Just do it." *turns on the tv* Me: "Goddamn. Dubya's gonna be pissed." That was honestly my first thought. I watched in raptured horror as the second plane hit. Then, I got nervous. I was about a 10 minute walk from Parliament Hill. I thought that would be a logical target too. |
I had just entered my World History class in 10th grade and my teacher had a TV there showing the news and I did not hear or see about it until then. It was crazy/unbelieveable.
|
god damn it nyck.

In class in highschool...grade 11...nick came in and said they were hit...anyways got us out of class to watch shit on tv
...I wore my yankees hat and eli manning giants jersey today With sept 11th coming up..i don't see how the refs could fuck over the giants with that bullshit offensive pass interference call. Anyways...move on. |
I was a sophmore in highschool sitting in Math class. The principal came on over the loud speakers and said that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I thought she meant a little cessna so I thought very little of it other than sucks for the pilot. Then I went to the library and saw the tv's playing the crashs over and over again. I was watching when the towers collapsed.

( be sure to watch all the specials , special reports , investigative reports , remembering , heros of 'x' , at least 2 hours of local news , and 2 hours of network news . if not then you are unpatriotic. ) |
No disrespect intended, but I'll be watching "Prison Break". rock:
|
Im not watching any of it either, Ill watch football.
You dont need to dedicate a whole day of weeping on the subject a simple I remember is all. |
|
i was in 10th grade spanish class, i remember within like a week after it happend the like 5 muslim kids that went to my school transfered.
|
I remember my sister woke me up and told me what had happened, but it did not really occur to me what was going on. I was thinking that it was some small prop plane and kinda shrugged it off. I went to school and was in the library when I saw everyone in there watching it all on tv.
|
I remember waking up quite early at like 6:30am, and heading upstairs and my dad comes out of his room and is like "Did you hear whats happening in new york?? Somebodies flown some planes into the world trade center," I just had all these questions about the planes etc trying to figure out what the hell it was about.
I was sick, so I didn't go into school and watched it all at home by myself. I saw the towers collapse but I missed seeing both the planes crash into it, although of course I saw it because they played it like 324839484 times that day. Shocking stuff. |
Came home early from school, turned on the telly and saw the news. Got me mum to watch, we didnt believe it at first.
|
Was in english class and then saw it on the TV. A few of my friends' parents/neighbors worked in the towers and their faces were just white. Our class schedules went on though. Got to lunch and all you could hear is, "I heard those damn towel heads did it. Imma just gonna go down there and shoot them up all rambo style ahaha" Kinda weird how the average joe kid didn't realize the severity of it.
I won't watch any of the stuff on TV today. I just can't do it. |
Honestly, I remember everything as vivid as possible. I was in school, in bio class. Naturally I was asleep when I hear Mr McNerney, the principal, come over the intercom and tell us about the attacks. Next thing you know, I was wide awake and me and this kid Joe were trying to get the tv to work. Part of me couldn't believe it, the other half was angry/sad. I got home to my mom being in a panic thinking my cousins worked right around there, but thankfully they didn't.

I was in 8th grade and I remember being in my english/writing class and the teacher coming in and saying there was a terrorist attack in NYC. at that time when i heard the word terrorist, i thought of people with masks and guns holding hostages...i thought the swat team or police would fuck them up....but then she said a little bit after that that a plane has hit one of the world trade center buildings...we werent allowed to watch the tv or get any updates, only that a second plane had hit.
im so close to NYC that the smoke from the towers drifted over my town. a few of my parents friends had seen them hit. A lot of my friends who had parents who worked in the city were called down to the office, but luckily they were all safe. I remember vividly my best friend Jenni walking down the ailse in the lunch room crying her eyes out thinking her dad was hurt. I was very fortunate that no one close to me was affected, but RIP to those who lost their lives that day. I will never forget that day. |
I was working at Bell Nexxia... then, a bunch of people started to tell the rest of us to check the news. When I saw the first hit, I thought "hmm... strange... that doesn't look too accidental" and the moment I saw the second plane coming, I just said "yup, terrorists" and tried to think about what kind of insanity and hatred could possibly push people to commit acts like this. I wasn't shaken by the event itself, but moreso by how incredibly primitive humans really are.

Math class, measuring ourselves..first year I was at private school..
good ol ridley college.. http://www.ridley.on.ca |
I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was. I was in my 8th grade biology class, and we were doing a sort of Jeopardy-esque class game to review for our first test. We were discussing the metric system versus imperical measurements and why the USA was the only country not to have switched over. The teacher says "Because Americans don't like change". At almost that exact moment, his wife, another teacher comes in, and whispers something to him, and we spned the last 5 minutes of class watching Bush's address from the elementary school. That's all we saw, we didn't really understand what was going on. As we were leaving class, I overheard one girl "That was pointless. I thought someone DIED or something" annoy:
In my third period Woodshop class was the first time I saw the twin towers had been hit. Both collapsed during that class. Today I was walking around campus and I notice the flags were at half mast. I couldn't figure out who died, and then I realized what day it is. |
i was playing super smash brothers on my old N64 when my mother called me into her room. She had CNN on and the first plane had just hit. I thought they were just demolishing a skyscraper, but then the second plane hit and i knew something was terribly wrong. My friend steve came over and we watched the news for the whole day and that night everyone in our neighborhood went to the emergency church service to pray for the victims.
|
my bro woke me up and told me what had happened. i missed just about everything but i saw the replays though

I was in basic training and my company was in the company area cleaning our m16's for qualifications the next day while they did a gear invintory up stairs.
I went up to get more q-tips and a buddy said the radio the drill sergents had on said a plane had hit the trade center. I dismissed it, remember that a b24 had hit the empire state building before, and it didnt say what size the plane was. I was down cleaning my weapon when the company commander came out of his office and annouced that two planes had hit the trade center towers, and that our DS's would give us more information later. Later that day our lead DS took us out into a feild and told us that we had been attacked and that all of us would likly see combat, though he didnt know where. He then reassured us that our training would not change, it would be just as intense as it was before, and that we should perhaps take it more seriously. Since we did have a few fucking clowns in the plattoon. The next day we trained. Then a few weeks later our company cycled into the base defense rotation. All those check points on roads into bases, yeah, i did that, i was the one who counted cars for random inspection, or pulled suspicious cars. It wasnt bad until i had to do it from 2am, till 6am, that was my first of many cases of frostbite. edit: first video footage i saw of it was after my discharge 5 or 6 months later. |
was in 10th grade... in programming class... teacher annouced two planes hit the world trade center.. said if you had any family in that worked there to get up and see him cause they would be allowed to leave and call home... half my class stood up.. including me .. RIP SEMPER FI
