Oh yea, guess where i am going tonight? going to see red hot chili peppers and mars volta in the continental airline arenas again.
Booyakasha.
They were amazing last night...out of all the songs i love from them, they didnt play only about 4 or 5... there was an awesome like 1000 flourescent light bulb thing back stage and another coming out over the audience. each bulb was like devided into like 5 sections so huge designs and ppictures could be put on the bars...and for each song, there were mini music vedos up there so its not like each bar was unicolored....there were four cameraman in front of the stage and each could send live feed to the massive screen and add effects in the process. that was insane ...and at one point the feed switched thru each of the 4 cameras in succession over and over really fast while they were all watching anthony...so it looked liek a flipbook kinda thing...it was incredible...Before the show, they gave each of us pen lights, and before Snow, they said they were gonna take footage for the music video and for us to use the lights.,...amazing.....definately the best show i've ever gone to......and guess who was sitting behind me?, the one and only [url:d6700]http://imdb.com/name/nm0005286/[/url:d6700] Haley Joel Osment

i strongly disagree when saying mars volta suck.

Doctor Duffy 10-18-2006 04:37 PM

Mars volta never knows when to fucking stop, their songs'll drag on for like hours and it's not even that interesting when they keep repeating the same yodels and riffs.

? usually their songs bust out into some sort of random jam session that progresses and builds.

Doctor Duffy 10-18-2006 05:45 PM

They're not bad for imo, it's just I thought a lot of their songs on the new album were weak b/c all they were were buildups of the same beat and it would just drag on and on, but there were a couple I liked

ninty 10-18-2006 06:06 PM

I went to RHCP about a month ago when they were here. They were decent, not great. Not the best concert i've seen. and the mars volta i don't really listen to, but i didn't really like them anyway.

So anyways, I was standing there waiting to use the pay phone.
Doug Butabi: And this guy who was on the phone, turns around and tips his hat like this.
Steve Butabi: And who do you think that guy was?
Doug Butabi: Emilio Estevez.
Steve Butabi: The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God, I was there.
Doug Butabi: Of course you were, you were the one who yelled the Breakfast Clubber's name.
Steve Butabi: I was like, "Emilio."

The Mars Volta's first cd De-Loused In The Comatorium is an amazing cd... Frances The Mute was decent. I havent heard their new stuff but I heard it was very different. Overall a great band. At The Drive-In was better, but whatever.

at the drive in and mars volta are in completely different genres. i couldn't compare them.

i wouldn't have taken you as a killswitch fan, ubt that's cool.

Zoner 10-19-2006 03:15 PM

The Mars Volta opened for the Chili Peppers a few weeks ago and everyone I know who went said they sucked.

i think mars volta is a bit of an acquired taste. i can't imagine your friends would be into them.

Zoner 10-19-2006 03:26 PM

Yeah, most of the people who went were just co-workers. Me and my buds mighta liked 'em.

*shrug*

they isnt metal

Pyro 10-19-2006 04:06 PM

RHCP and Mars Volta are nothing alike...i don't see why they'd open for RHCP....

and yeah i think anti is right is mentioning them to be an aquired taste...but their first album is absolutly beauftiful and the second one is good too...haven't heard the new one yet though.

The same beat? Yeah their songs are long but a 6 year old could tell they definitely do not follow the same beat for the whole song. Try actually LISTENING before you make naive comments.

baby dick

Scorched Earth 10-19-2006 08:59 PM

Yea i like volta and all, but they sucked live...i think its a combination of the sound and all being set up for chili peppers adn their new is not the kinda stuff to be played live....it might be decent off a cd but live, it sucks.

bukdez 10-19-2006 08:59 PM

you know that bands like that hav their own gear and sound guy right?...

Scorched Earth 10-19-2006 09:01 PM

well there are still definately differences in stage crap for opening bands and the main bands..they dont get the full setup they want..whether im a retard about stage equipment and setup or not, they were not good live.

Doctor Duffy 10-19-2006 09:06 PM

I dont even listen to volta truthfully, I just checked out their cd from the library when I kept seeing the frances the mute posters all over the downtown record shop.

Jotun 10-19-2006 11:03 PM

well, i wouldnt judge The Mars Volta solely on Frances The Mute....their first cd is much better, although Frances is decent...

Bleuachdu 10-19-2006 11:09 PM

For some reason I have a suspicion that everyone saying Mars Volta sucks live either hasn't been to many shows, or saw them at a big arena. I saw them early last year after Frances came out at a relatively small club and I thought they were stellar.

Arkan 10-20-2006 05:08 AM

Fuck, other than RHCP, i never heard of any of the bands mentioned. Shit, i gotta get out of the house more often.
